EverQuest 2

As I know Sony reads the EQEMu webpage I am posting this:

Sony Online Entertainment Inc. (SOE), a worldwide leader in massively multiplayer online gaming, announced today that it is adding incentives to EverQuest

Elrach 05-12-2003 09:20 AM

hehe, I must say, this is pretty smart of them. They are ensuring folks will keep playing BOTH games, and pay for twice the accounts. I don't blame em for doing this. However, I pity the fools who will fall for it. :?

a_Guest03 05-12-2003 11:35 AM

WTF? Why should the "loyal" customers get benefits over new guys? fsck them! New people should get benefits too, because those loyal people will crush them like wine-flavored jello anyway.

runya 05-12-2003 11:54 AM

bah, verant has been money sucking vampires ever since they started. i think theyve invested more money into their marketing department than the game itself. think of the stormhammer server, the server they were trying to sell for $50 a month. they promised constant gm events, some online player map tracking device, personal items and such (ive talked to a few suckers who fell for it, and they said theres nothing like that on there, just a bunch of gms sitting around doing nothing). I gave me minimal monthly cost to them for close to 2 years, plus the cost of the game itself. i refuse to pay another cent more for a nerd form of heroin. plus, eq2 is just some graphically enhanced version of the same crappy game. you'd think they would develop a new world, new lands or something.

Slayer02 05-12-2003 01:43 PM

Alls I have to say is WHAT THE FUCK? So now it is whoever spends the most money gets the good stuff? HEY SONY, WHY DONT YOU JUST GO SELL ACCOUNTS! WHILE YOU'RE AT IT, MAKE THEM LEVEL 100 and only they can get to that level. Be just the same as what you're doing. -Ybik of the Nameless server. (The Original you bastards.)

hogosha 05-12-2003 01:46 PM

What's next? If you pay $5 extra you get full set of twinks, 30 to each stat? This is bull crap. I aint payin crap, ill let someone else buy it for me, then ill copy it, and then i will wait for the free server to come out. They should just release the source code to Everquest once they release Everquest 2 if it's going to be that great.

Shawn319 05-12-2003 08:14 PM

Who didnt see it coming.... anyone remember the 40$/mo bs for more ingame quests and quicker replied for petitions?

toiletpunks 05-13-2003 01:07 AM

well

well if people were stupid anuf to pay 40 a month for some extra help and a server with less people that has never had any of the stuff touched then sure there going to fall for this. now it would be diffrent if they came up with something better and new like. if you want to play EQ and EQ2 they should make a discount for playing both. Like pay for eq2 and get like 8 off of eq so you pay like 5 for eq. that way there doing there loyal fans something good. who cares about adding extra stuff that only they can use. thats bs.

Trumpcard 05-13-2003 02:43 AM

They'll have to drop the price on eq 1 to keep it going, no one will sign up for eq1 if eq2 is available for the same price.

Unless eq2 is just going to be more expensive period. I bet they'll offer a discount for both games eventually, though I don't see why anyone would play both 1 & 2. 1 is enough of a timesink...

And guys, keep the commentary polite...

Slayer02 05-13-2003 04:13 AM

Yeah, sorry about that trump. But I mean, COME ON. Is it not enough that most people play EverDope 12 hours a day? (Seriously, I lost a friend to EverDope, he is just a mindless zombie now...)

Trumpcard 05-13-2003 05:07 AM

I'd hardly consider that Verant's fault though, your friend has a will of his own after all. I believe people are personally responsible for their own decisions, and lives...

I wasnt really refering to your post in general Slayer, I was just reminding everyone because of some posts I saw in another thread. No worries...

Slayer02 05-13-2003 05:22 AM

EverQuest = heroin, seriously, there should be a warning on it. I would still be addicted if it wasn't for you guys here. This place is like rehab for me.

Edgar1898 05-13-2003 05:29 AM

heh

I mean strictly from a development point of view, you guys know how hard thats going to be to get accounts linked and how much of a headache its going to be for thier customer service department . Think of how many ppl prepay or use an alt credit card to pay for eq, or their parents pay for the account and they bought an eq2 account, etc. how are they going to link those accounts, and if they dont link your account because you paid with a different card or prepay, can you imagine the number of calls they are going to receive complaining? I think that some executive thought this up at a meeting without consulting the real ppl that make this game happen. I see this "feature" being dropped before eq2 is released, but I guess I'll have to wait and see :P

a_Guest03 05-13-2003 05:49 AM

Everquest is just a way of facilitating a need that some people have to feel control in their live, through power or acceptance or accomplishment, even if it doesn't apply to the real world. Addiction to it requires that one need it. But I still blame cokeheads and coke dealers for the coke problems. One has a problem, and the other facilitates it and transforms it into another problem for profit.

This place really is like rehab. I don't NEED to play EQ anymore, because my obsessive characteristics can be quenched faster with emu. If I MUST kill Cazic, I'll slaughter him in a moment's notice. If I NEED to solo a zone, I can do it here, and the need passes without 14 hours of feeling guilty.

Trumpcard 05-13-2003 06:23 AM

The fact is though that people with addictition tendancies are going to be hooked on SOMETHING, just in this case it's EQ. I've seen the same compulsions with D&D, porn, Model building, boating, motorcycles and sword collecting (my compulsions).

Where do we draw the line as a society. Anything that someone might possibly devote too much time to, we rule it as addictive and put safeguards on it? The internet period !

You can't regulate personal choices without restricting personal freedoms.

I should sue Briars because they make an Picchio ice cream that is SOOO good that I can't help but eating the entire half galleon at a time. It's there fault for making it so tasty, I shouldnt have to fight that temptation.

What is the solution, make everything bland? Create a 'Harrison Bergeron' society where all things and people are equal?

If you havent read that short story, look it up , really good social commentary..
