What is CVS

I hear references to "CVS". Can anyone clue me in to what that is?

I believe it's short for concurrent version system, but it is a way for developers to all be working on code and all post updates at different times. Sometimes, if you don't use a system like this, what happens is a splintering of code - one project makes some changes, and another project makes some changes, but they don't work right together.

CVS is where the CURRENT code is stored. It can change as little as once every few days to 50 times in a day. CVS code usually isn't supported well because it's not meant to be in the hands of end users who don't know what they're doing. A client using CVS code is usually helping with development or bugchasing, or NEEDs the newest features.

If you still need more information, read up on cvs for windows. Most linux users already know what to do with it, and how to access it, as it comes built into many distributions.

Ok, Clear enough

If you had been using sourcesafe I wouldn't have had to ask :)

Anyway, here's why I asked. I've downloaded the source available on the main page and there are some changes I wanted to make. However, I'm using the 4.4dr1(?) binaries and database I downloaded from the World building page and I'm worried that If I do build and use my own version I'll lose a lot of the changes/improvements provided since the last drop of the source(4.3).

So would it be possible for me to use CVS and grab the latest changes/updates to the code so I can keep the improvements made by others and add my own?

CVS is also a pharmacy..... :D

Just post your change snippets, let one of the devs put it in, then download the CVS the next day.

My sister worked at CVS, and it sucked because she was making minimum wage and had to pay union dues and got no union benefits. That's like making less than minimum wage!

The unions are organized crime..

Its a tool of the mafia...

I think it's against open market policy, and only benefits the union organizers these days. I don't think it's fair pricing policy - it's like having a trust.
