EqEmu logins and LAN
Here's a question that I can't seem to find the answer to. First off, I'm on a LAN with two computers. The computer running the world/zone servers and has the database on it is running Windows XP. I have one connection to the internet which both computers share with the internet connection sharing feature with XP. The problem with this is I have a "shared" connection, both computers have the same IP address which means if I were to create a server that I want others to log onto, the second computer can't log on to that server because of the same IP as the host. i.e. Second computer tries to log in to the server and because the settings on boot5zones and world, etc are the same IP address, it's coming back to the second computer and obviously not finding the files it needs.
Is there any setup at all that I can use where both computers can log into the public server created? Can minilogin be used in conjuction with the setup? Thanks in advance.... |
This might not help a LOT, but...
Isnt there an "internet" IP, and a separate LAN IP? The LAN IP is the one you need to use I think.

But if I use the LAN ip, others won't be able to login. I can set up a local server just fine, what I want is a public server that both computers can log onto.

It'll work with multiple connections from the same IP. It's not recommended of course, and your mileage may vary, but it can be done. All machines with the same IP will login with the same account, just don't select the same character. As long as you select different characters things seem to be ok. If you then do a /who all in the game you will only see the "first" character from that IP that connected. I've got just a couple of folks doing this and it works fine for them to play. To repeat though, this is not recommended since it is possible that something won't work right and it'll hose your database.
