i am using a 16mb ati mobility U1.... and as for drivers, how do i know which ones i have/which i need? with this configuration wich direct x should i be using?

Velosity 06-23-2003 05:02 PM

i use an Nvidia Geforce 3 TI 200, and im quite pleased with how its worked

Mortamer 06-24-2003 03:56 AM

16 mb might not work, I'm not sure.. But I know when I reformatted my computer I needed to reinstall all of my drivers, did you format recently?

a_Guest03 06-24-2003 04:03 AM

It works. I was playing on 16mb, 233Mhz, 256Megs of ram.

pleasuretoburn 06-24-2003 04:10 AM

so then what is the problem? if its Direct X, what version should i be running, because i tried to install 8, and it wouldnt let me (i use XP, and it gave me an error about 'this program is not made for Windows NT) and then i installed direct x 9, and it didnt fix my problem. If my problem lies in my drivers, how can i find out which ones i need to download?

a_Guest03 06-24-2003 06:48 AM

I used DX9. I think it's your video card driver.

pleasuretoburn 06-24-2003 09:03 PM

so if its my video card driver, then where do i go to get new drivers, and what do i do to find out which i need?

(this much help so far is greatly appreciated)

It's your video card! Try ati's website. Find your drivers and install them. If that doesn't work, uninstall the drivers and try the ones on the CD. Just keep looking.

pleasuretoburn 06-30-2003 11:37 AM

i tried ati's website, and they told me to goto compaq's site. i went there, downloaded the drivers, and installed them... and it still doesnt work. i tried the cd as well, and it didnt have my drivers, just xp and my basic compaq files.... ne other ideas as to what could be wrong?

ok, i figured it out, so i figured id post it here unless anyone ahs the same problem. Direct X has a diagnostic tool that can be used for changing prefernaces, and it turns out onna my old roomates must have changed DirX to no have #D acceleration enabled. The way to fix this problem was to go into the run promt, and then type dxdiag. This will get u into the diag tool. then click on the display tab (display2 if using a voodoo2 video card) and make sure that all 3 video acceleration types are enabled.

btw, thanks to everyone who helped me figure this out.

Could you also post *how* you figured this out? What was it that led you to try this?

pleasuretoburn 07-05-2003 05:49 AM

theres a support search on eq's website. I searched under the error i was recieveing, and it told me what everyone in this post had told me, and then, that if all this hadnt worked, that i should try the dxdiag tool.
