mySQL

when i started mySQL for the first time it never asked for a user name and password. has this happened to anyone else?

MySQL uses the root user with no password by default. Did you run winmysqladmin.exe? I've verified that the .exe that comes with 3.23.57 asks for name/password on the first startup (win2k3).
