Minimal Server (Stupid Question)
Stupid question - if i want a specific machine to act solely as a server, is it necessary that I install and fully patch everquest? or can I just run mysql and the server? If only SOME of the EQ files are needed, can i just copy them to the machine in question?
The reason i ask is that I did not have to specify my EQ directory when setting up the server. |
The only file you really need is spdat.eff.. the rest are all stored on the client, and the server only tells the client to look in 'em.

I think the main thing would be bandwidth and memory. The more of them you have the more zones you can run at a time.
|
could you setup a computer on a LAN to run as a server just for your lan? Like a private server just for the LAN. If so, how would you configure EQEMU?
|
you could except that the current login server only allows one userid/password to login and thats eqemu/eqemu.
|
for the record, this is listed elsewhere, but here is my config for running on my LAN:
this is my loginserver.ini: [LoginServer] loginserver=localhost worldname=The Dreaming locked=false worldaddress=192.168.1.101 account=eqemu password=eqemu and this is my eqhost.txt [Registration Servers] { "192.168.1.101:5999" } [Login Servers] { "192.168.1.101:5999" } Please note that 192.168.1.101 is the LAN address of my server. |
Yeah you could. Your server would still have to have a connection to the internet for the loginserver to communicate with but just set it up on your private IP range and it will communicate just fine. As long as the people are on the same IP range as your server then they should be able to play while no one else will.
|
or you can run minilogin with the loginserver.ini and eqhost.txt info I posted above, substituting your server's LAN address for 192.168.1.101.
