visual script.net, other options?

I am interested in atleast trying to make my own server, but I got stuck at the part of getting VS.net 2003. Are there any other programs that will work? I can get codewarrior from school for free and wanted to know if that would work, or if anything else that doesn't cost so much would work also.

If you wait till EQEMU 5.0 is out of the developmental phase you wont need a compiler.

just a side note, it's not visual script .net, it's visual studio .NET
