as for the build in 985 the #flagedit lockzone [zonename] [key].
does work but when a player NOT having the key when you set that zone with a key causes the player to freeze and the zone that he was in too crash. but if the player has the key he is able to zone into the zone.

I looks like the reason crash is it does not reload the player in the zone the player was coming from. I think in the code needs to change where if the player does not have the flag it causes them to reload that zone. If anybody knows C++ that can help with the fix I know a little but i think i have kinda narrowed it down. if you can verify this and help with the post that would be great.
