I usually get a crash like that on my laptop, because it has a widescreen resolution. Maybe the resolution changed on you? You can try going into your eqclient.ini and setting WindowedMode=true. If the game runs then you can return to full screen mode once in game and set the proper resolution from there. I find that I have to go to windowed mode every time I start otherwise it crashes.
