Actually they do post that in the news forum, and on the main page. When it is known! We can't be sure what patches will actually break the EMU. Best guess is when the test server files break the emu then the next patch to live will also, but there may be other changes when they actually patch the live servers. There was a patch (or 2) on 10-20 also. That is the real problem.

The sequence of evnts is something like this:

10-16 patch to live
10-20 EQEmu updated the login server (was there a patch earlier that day that required this update?)
10-20 another patch to live
10-21 another patch to live

As you can see the dev's are trying to code an emulator for a moving target. There isn't always a warning when it will move either! All things considered their doing a good job.

FYI eqemu insn't the only project affected by verant's patches. Take a look at showEQ, Hackersquest, and Macroquest possibly several others They all have similar problems.
