I personally prefer to have the router and wifi access point as separate devices.
Ubiquiti (
www.ubnt.com) makes the UniFi AP that works rock solid and is fairly cheap.
Google shopping puts them at $66 and Baltic Networks has them at $65

Just turn off the wifi on your router and use it only as a router
