One thing to consider is the reward factor.

The reason EQ is sooo addictive IS the reward factor. If you're not using a level-based system, you will need to ensure that the gear more than compensates.

I don't want to discourage your efforts..but, I don't want to see you fail either. You will really need to focus on the gear in order to make it worth giving up level attainment.

I'm sure some other people will have opinions on this as well
Thats true, the leveling part would still be all the AAXP you can get, that still amounts to a whole lot of xp to get and like you said the server would be entirely based on gearing up or i could combine both and set players at level 50 and let them get xp from there on in seeing the base classic EQ is level 50 and then add 10 to get with Kunark and so on.

Well see what people want most who post in this thread and go with a combination of both.

Good input, i appreciate that.

Edit: I see you came from Bertox aswell, do you remember the Guilds Red Sky or Phantom Raiders by any chance, as in we might have crossed paths once ?

So I've teamed up with another board member and I'm working on a progression server idea now. It's the World of WarQuest server on the list that I will change as soon as they fix the WS modification link here.

I say your idea of a server is good and you should do it regardless of what people here think. Most of the fun of running a server is being able to do the coding for personal satisfaction.
Damn, just hearing about that and it sounds like a whole lot of work, but does SOE really send S&D letters to people with emulator servers?

I would really like to see people enjoy the server first and foremost as its allot of work and time, so while there are people on it, i dont mind spending the time as i GM every 2 weeks a pen and paper RPG aswell and i really like to tell stories, the same would go for the server.
