I believe this was really a two-parter. His initial intention was to find ways to help his character on EQLive. I explained that EQemu and EQLive were two separate things and EQEmu was not going to help him with what he wanted.
The second posting I believe is a response to my private comments. The part I guess that I didn't make clear is that EQEmu does not provide any additional information to EQLIve, the objects, mobs, locations, and so on that someone couldn't get from another source-- if the intention is to learn more about EQLive.
So here are the answers to his questions:
1. yes you can run a normal server, but it would not have all the functionality of the EQLive servers. To have your own server you need to download software that was created in the EQEmu project and own a legal copy of Everquest. You cannot download any EQ files from this site.
2. Or yes, you can join someone's EQEmu server. All you need to do is register with the EQEmu login server, own a copy of Everquest, change your eqhost.txt to point to the EQEmu login server, and then select a server from the server list. But you are on EQEmu servers, not EQLive servers.
Finally, all the information to get started with either choice 1 or 2, is readily available on those sticky little notes that are posted in this forum (and probably one or two other places).
