At work, I'm going to try using only slackware and free stuff, and see what happens. I assume it's going to get ugly. My ATM machines that I troubleshoot use Windows NT 4... No need to pollute my own work computer with that garbage, though.
I know you're not starting a flame war, but we linux cats are all zealots. I think it's more fun to be zealots about something less important. I'm actually very impressed with the desktop systems of linux. I like them a lot more than Windows, and would be pleased if a "control panel" came out, full-function in a universal manner for people with standard equipment. I would love it if my girlfriend could use a Linux system with her parents without any big hassle. Right now, her parents are a bit scared of it.
"Gabe, is this Linux LEGAL!? How does it get on the internet without Juno!?"
"No, Peggy, it's part of the crime syndicate software I downloaded to overthrow the government and have biological weapons shipped to my house."
I only thought the last part. My real answer was "Yes."
