Down, sparky!!
I think some of the misunderstanding is that haecz has trouble expressing in great detail exactly what he means, and it seems unintelligent, or he gives a wrong impression. English is his second language, so cut him some slack once in a while. It's a hard language to master.
As far as not backing up is concerned, I think anyone who takes haecz's suggestion at face value when he has the pointless poster title in his name (earned or not), probably wouldn't have backed up anyway. And how many newbies are there to even listen to him?
For the record: always back up before a patch. ALWAYS. If the files coming down aren't binaries or .dll files, then it's *probably* okay to patch, but you should still heed the message: always back up.
There's no need to jump on him. You'll just make him hate us all and hate the project until he quits coming around. There's no need to sow bad blood, especially in a forum.
