If you want to play on an EQEmu server, you only need EverQuest installed and patched. You can see servers are running different versions, each versions require a different EQLive patch. At this moment, EQEmu is broken and dont work with latest EQLive patch, maybe its why you cant login, you just have to wait EQEmu devs release a new version of EQEmu compatible with EQLive patch and the owner of the server you want to play on install the new EQEmu release.
