I'm having the same problem. If I start up zone.exe from the command prompt, it only gets as far as "loading doors" for the particular zone before it just silently crashes.
I'm pretty sure the problem isn't that you got your files mid-update, because I got mine pre-compiled from CVS.
FYI, I'm using the PEQ Classic database and I sourced the wr_update.sql mentioned on the main page.
