Version problems

hi guys!
Chinese eq has been closed last month, so some of us want to setup a eqemulator server. I have read forum rules and spike's tutorial. I have some questions before I address on it.

1, As forum rule says, if "DO NOT PATCH" shown on page it means we can not play on eqmulator. Can we use eqmulator without lastest patch?

2, What's the difference between version 6.0-DR1 and 6.0-DR2? What does DR mean?

3, Which version of eqmulator is best?
