Default combat disabled in certain zone

Hi all,
I discovered eq emulator this year and am impressed beyond words of the accomplishment. I have a private server running with a group reliving the experience.

In ocean of tears, I tried to kill Gull Skytalon for cleric armor quest and the entire zone seems to have combat disabled. I confirmed aviak isle, goblin isle, and seafury isle with the message "you cannot taunt in a no combat zone".

Is there a server/zone rule or peq database entry that needs correction? I could gm give item I need and skip zone but thus far am playing with self-imposed rules.

I would appreciate any knowledge that could be shared on this.

After some further research, I have read a post from Cavedude about some revamped zones have nocombat=0 and another post from Kingly_Krab about editing the zone setting server side. Both were aged posts and seem relevant to me.

However, in 2024, is ocean of tears considered a revamped zone? I just do not know the history of EQ after Planes of Power well enough. I did use #zone to get to OOT so perhaps I am using the wrong zone ID? or Instanced is creating issue.

Anyways, as soon as I get back home I will edit cancombat=1 flag and see if I start getting any errors.

To all that made this project available, I salute you.

Hawk

Quick update: Loaded HeidiSQL, Set Nro/Sro/OOT to enable combat. Killed a couple named mobs for quest items and continued along without issue. All were instanced zones. No idea if over time issues could arise with a static zone.

Cheers,

Hawk

Regarding the combat issue, it seems that the zone might ‘ghost’ as “no combat” for specific areas, as to not let people fight by mistake or for quest purposes. Where you installed creating the Kiosk may be as simple as a setting in the Server or PEQ database. If you dare, you could try looking up this zone in the database or maybe the server administrator will have a look for you.
