Exclamation Change the Sky to Any Sky. [How-To]

Well, I was looking around for a way to change the sky for a while and
haven't seen anything yet in forums and and i noticed that when i type #zsky 0
or #zsky 1 it would just change it from blank to regular...

as an experiment i tried to change the sky in qeynos to the luclin sky ... and
it worked, this is how it works:

A) go into your EverQuest directory and open the 'Resources' folder
B) Open up Sky.ini, move it to its own folder (it wont let
you edit it if its still in the directory) and scroll down to where it says
"[SkySetting-qeynos]" and below it change the information from figure
a to figure b:

BEFORE:

Code:
[SkySetting-qeynos]
OpaqueAngle=0.0
TransparentAngle=0.1
DefaultWeather=DefaultClear
MinAngle=0.000000
MaxAngle=-0.481145
MinWidth=0.342776
MaxWidth=-0.204408
MinCameraZ=-20.000000
MaxCameraZ=75.000000
AFTER:
Code:
[SkySetting-qeynos]
DefaultWeather=LuclinNight-0
MinAngle=-0.009169
MaxAngle=-0.237184
MinWidth=0.169098
MaxWidth=0.351511
MinCameraZ=-254.000000
MaxCameraZ=143.000000
and after saving and moving it back to its original place
below is the result:

ADDING ZONES TO SKY.INI
(for specific skies to appear in specific zones that areant already included on the sky.ini list) :

You can ADD entries to Sky.ini too - If you wanted to add a zone thats not on the list (such as tutoriala) then you go to the top of Sky.Ini and make the neccasary
changes (while going below and adding a relative piece to go with it):

BEFORE:
Code:
[SkySettings]

MinWidth=0.169098
MaxWidth=0.351511
MinCameraZ=-254.000000
MaxCameraZ=143.000000
(note: the zone tutoriala is a horrible place to actually test this since theres no way to look at the sky in that zone, this zone is
only used in the code above strictly for the sake of the example)

Now... Does anyone know if its possible to make custom skies? How would that work?

Thumbs down

You can not even figure out basic windows permissions (re: cannot edit file in resources folder) and you want to make custom skies?

Read the post - I said to "move it to its own folder" for the reason of it not letting you to edit it if you don't.
Learn to read (and follow) directions first before you criticize. I don't see you posting this and
didn't see you posting this the last time i asked if this was possible a few weeks ago nor when
others did in threads from a few years back, All I'm trying to do is give back to the community, I'm not sure if I'm the first
to ever figure this out or not nor does that really matter to me ; what matters to me is that now you can google or search
this information -for sure- and it -will- come up for future generations of eqemu worldbuilders, I certainly never
found it (although I'm not perfect) after many months - so here it is & theres no doubt in my mind this works - I've tested it with Eqemu 0.8.0.

[ie: see quote below, its from the post above:]

btw, check out some of my custom zones [all are each a work in progress
and none are done as of yet], I am going to use the information about skies posted above add skies to these or any of my newer zones to my hearts content.]

[person in last picture is my buddy Libberlag, testin out one of my new zones]
He's referring to the NTFS permissions on the file where it resides. You have to edit the permissions on the file itself in order to edit it.

Ahhhhh - I didn't know [but now I do], Thanks. =)

How would I approach that? Just right click the file directly?

When your client is located underneath Program Files, typically it inherits permissions on Program Files which is usually pretty restricted to modifying anything, if at all read rights.

Yes you right click the file and go to Security, in there you can click 'Edit...' and modify your NTFS permissions from there.

Or, you can just be smart and move your EQ clients out from under Program Files altogether which fixes the permission issue (assuming you don't move it to another restricted place) and doesn't require file virtualization.

He wants to do stuff, attempts to do stuff, posts legitimate questions and people give him shit.
So what if he didn't know (really should have) about the permissions.
At least his posts are written in English and not fucking Swahili unlike some of the new posters we've seen of late.
Well they might use what appears to be English but it might as well be Swahili for all the good their terrible spelling does it.

Good post about the skys, show off your stuff more.

Pretty good actually since the picture below
illustrates the purpose of this post. I also looked into
the information provided by folks here and found more info
regarding it that i missed before.

As you can imagine typing "Eqemu change the sky" would render similar if not the same results,
all this post was/is meant to do is archive this information for future World-Builders.

Some folks brought up and added some information I missed (also a part of the point since this thread might as well be
locked if it wasnt) so as far as im concerned: mission accomplished. - Not like getting stuff on Google is even hard anymore
these days since I'm fairly certain for a big site like this its pretty quick but the point is that I/others were looking for how to change
the sky for awhile and couldn't find any articles about this topic, thats not to say there arean't any but just that now it should be a little
bit easier for folks to access and utilize this information. I'm not posting here for credit - just to help out others. ;
if Eqemu community is to continue to be successful we must remember to not be so hypercritical towards each other -
especially to those who post not just for support but to also contribute their findings towards the overall
collective knowledge for the benefit of all involved, as well.

Thanks again everyone! Especially all the folks who were courteous enough to give mature, polite and straight-to-the-point advice about this issue. =]
