Since this thread (http://www.eqemulator.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10037) is archived, lost, buried, and 4 years old, I wanted to re-post here for the flood of new interested admins looking for some guidance.
This EQEmu Guidebook 1.3 (http://eq.mmoemulators.com/files/EQEmu_Guidebook13.zip) is fairly old, but most of it is still pretty accurate and helpful to at least un-mystify some of the inner workings of the emulator. Hopefully you will find it helpful.
(I refuse to bump a thread 3 years old, so here's a new one. ;))
