I have successfully gotten Eqemu to work with xampp. Everything I am using is portable. I have a few friends that want to be able to run their own Eq server at home, but aren't really pc savy enough to put one together. Can burn this to dvd, at the moment it is 1.76 Gig, they can copy it to their drive, make few config changes and start up an eq server.
My questions is: Would anyone be interested in a walkthrough/tutorial on creating one.

Im interested. Where can I download it from? Which databases did you use? And did you use Minilogin?

Haven't posted anything yet. I started with xampp used peq database and minilogon. I also setup a webpage to help with signon's. I'll get my notes ready for public consumption the post in the wiki. Really only a few changes from the normal setup, to make everything work with xampp and perl.

Just make sure you aren't including the actual Titanium client in your download. If you are, then posting a link to that download here will result in an instant ban of your account and deletion of the post. We don't allow any talk of illegal actions here including ways to get warez or illegal copies of EQ.
The reason I mention that is because you say that the download is 1.76GBs, which makes me think that it has more than just the normal stuff to run a server in it.

I am strictly talking about the EQemu server. No client files at all. The 1.76 Gb is for an uncompressed server. My friends can copy, but they not to good with the extraction process, so I didn't bother to compress it. I am only creating a tutorial to create your own portable server, not doing it for you.
I agree that if you can't afford 20 bucks for EQ Titanium you shouldn't be playing with the Eqemu. :-)

Oh, I see. That includes a fully sourced database. That makes sense. Sorry about the confusion. I was just being cautious :)

Ok. The first installment of EQEMU as a portable app is up. Here is the link: http://www.eqemulator.net/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=Portable.
I'm going to add minilogin and a few other features to it. Let me know what you think, the good bad and the ugly. This is my first attempt at a tutorial and at using a Wiki, so be gentle :-)

Well I just finished downloading all the stuff. Am I going to need Navicat? or any of that stuff? Also Minilogin should be the same way as the other Guide right? Other than that Ill let you know whats going on with that Wiki, Wish me luck!

On your CVS Portion I noticed that you put CSV. Thats all I see right now as I am attempting the build. Other than that so far looks good!

Build works great. Might want to add all the stuff you can copy and paste. like the Path = %Path% , you can just copy and paste to avoid typing in everything. ( was having a little trouble here and there ) But other than that it was a good build. What about minilogin? Are you still working on that aspect for LAN use?

Thanks, BugSn0t. I have never been good making my fingers hit the right keys. :-)
Yes Minilogin is the same as the other guides. I am still working on it. If you used Navicat you still can. I have never used it perfering to use something webbased or from the command line. I have taken AndMetal's An all-purpose PHP-based tool ("custom") and installed it. My hope is to be able to add the tools necessary for it to be all-in-one. After I get the minilogin stuff in I'll add some parts for the various tools and how to install them.

I have added the minilogin setup. Let me know what I missed. Also will be adding some eqemu editing tools in the near future.
Enjoy :-)

Awesome Post, awesome wikii. Sorry it takes me about a day. Im on a different time zone. But as far as minilogin goes. Ill check it out. Looks like an awesome tutorial. Also my typing isn't always the best either. If you look at my prev post, I did mispell lots of words. So it happens. Thanks for the great tutorial, I'm definately going to give this link to all my buds.

Does this include mysql, so that it doesn't need to be installed on the target pc? A list of everything it includes would be great!
BTW, anyone tried this with Thinstall? Wondering if it can be made to be completely self-contained. Of course, the user would need to make sure they were using the same IP address that it was built with, unless they modified the config and put it in the App files folder that Thinstall creates...

Yes, it includes mysql. The purpose of trying this was to make a completely portable EqEmu Server. Nothing has to be installed on the target pc. You can build this server write it to a dvd and give it to your friends. They only need to change a few config settings and it works.
Since we are using XAMPP, we get everything that XAMPP contains. http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html is a link to the XAMPP site, but it contains the following:
Apache, MySQL, PHP + PEAR, Perl, mod_php, mod_perl, mod_ssl, OpenSSL, phpMyAdmin, Webalizer, Mercury Mail Transport System for Win32 and NetWare Systems v3.32, Ming, JpGraph, FileZilla FTP Server, mcrypt, eAccelerator, SQLite, and WEB-DAV + mod_auth_mysql.
We are only using Apache, PHP, Perl, and MySQL to build the Portable Emulator. We could get by with just using perl and MySql, but having apache and php gives us some portable config tools.
Also we are using version 1.6.6a because we need perl 5.8.
