If you are getting a 1017 error when connecting to your server, make sure the Windows XP Firewall is disabled. You can check this by right clicking "My Network Places" on your desktop and clicking properties, then right clicking "Local Area Connection" assuming you have a cable modem or something similure and clicking Properties. Then go to the Advanced tab. Make sure Internet Connection firewall is un-checked.

You need to talk to the admin for that server. its most likely a setup problem on their end.

well, i was able to play fine for 4 hours last night over various people's servers, i dont have my own server setup. i was on wraith's server messing around with the GoD dRaGoN guy he has spawned in the uberzone he created and the last thing i did was try zoning to kael, i got disconnected midstream and from that point on until today i cannot get onto ANY servers, 1017 everytime. only file i have in my eq dir is the eqhost.txt which worked fine last night until 4 hours after i started. not sure what else to try atm the fixes so far seem to be for people having probs connecting to their own servers, not other people's.

Just a suggestion, but run scandisk. I've seen eq.tmp get corrupted and cause problems getting into the game until it's been repaired, even though it's a temp file. Might not help, but worth a shot. If scandisk does not work, maybe try deleting the file (again, it's only a .tmp file).

WindowsXP is not win95/win98 (ie. idiot proof) it has ALOT of features and utilities. And as always it comes with NO documentation.

If you want your errors to go away check out:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/itpro/default.asp

----OR----

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/default.asp

But you must be able to READ in order to reap the benefits of those sites.

Learn how to use XP and the Internet is at your finger tips, nay, the world.

If you have any nortan antivirus or any other firewall program disable it even if you set permission for everquest to connect to the internet it ussally does not work and need to disable these programs before you start everquest.

Well after following ever single piece of written material I can find on the 1017 error I am still unable to log into my server using minilogin.

changed everything to localhost, checked to make sure my xp firewall wasn't selected.

Only thing I can think of is that because of this version of eq having been patched on Wednesday Sept 11. that it is screwing things up.

Any other ideas out there?

Im still having the same issue. I have disabled a none selected firewall in WindhoresXP. I have deleted my eq.tmp files. Now this is the 2nd im trying to get eqemu to work on my comp. I gave up the first time. Well I no longer play eq so.... I would like to mess around with it on my own comp. Other issue I have is, that if I connect to someone elses server, I lag out in just a few mins and EQ locks up when I try to get back in. I can restart EQ but it happened again. I dont think i have ever got to play EQemu more then 5mins at a time. btw I have tested my connection. I have a consistant 120KB Stream. I have tested with streaming media and downloads. So its not my connection dropping. I think its the game itself.

1) Go to the command prompt (Start -> Run -> CMD in 2K, or go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt).

2) Go to your EqEmu directory (mine is on c:\EQEmu)

3) Type this exactly:

world adduser eqemu eqemu 200

Nice one I have not had time to Reply. I was surfing the Board in farther and i found the answer from a Old post. Was about Usernames and Passwords. I thank you for your reply and adding to the game.

OverlordvI posted how to add the eqemu account for minilogin above. For more info on minilogin, see the new minilogin release.

If using the EQEmu login server, accounts are added automatically from the central accounts DB (this message boards accounts DB)
