Default 1017 Error?

Ok, I'll probably be labeled a total noob for asking, and may even be flamed to death for only taking a quick look at available documentation before asking, but what exactly causes you to not be able to connect to the servers? Is it because my version of everquest is amazing ancient and I don't think it has been patched at all since I used it last a couple of years ago?

Thats It! By now the game has been changed so much your client wont work. Sony patches happen all the time and they do sometimes they change the basic inner workings of the game.
So..Its either chase these patches and keep fixing them for newbs at the expense of fixing major problems or do like now and fix the problems and later fix the patch. Or try to make compatible with CD out of the box but maybe only 1000 CDs were made that could work.

As soon as you try to play a newly installed CD. Sony will patch it and change it to work to live. They dont care if the CD game never worked.
