Same problem

It originally was happening cause my refreshrate was 0 (for some retarded reason) so I put it to 60 and made the file read-only. That worked for a couple days until now.

Now it just crashes every time (bout 10-11 times now), getting very irritating!

I had this problem a while back and re-installed didnt have any problems but now its back but in an interesting twist it only effects one of my accounts i can log in all of my other accounts just fine but the one that is bugged crashes everytime i press login and it shows me the server screen.
my view is that this is somehow tied to accounts not the Everquest folder itself

Yeah I just noticed that although this may happen for one of my accts, the other is unaffected.

Makes me think it's something with the minilogin not finding out usernames correctly or something.

After being so frustrated by this I decided to investigate:

I started sniffing the packets I was getting and got a few crashed attempts and successful ones logged.

I'm going over them now, and most of the packets seem fine (sending server names and IPs) but I randomly get a strange packet that contains one of two things:

1)

very strange...

They all come from the minilogin server aswell (same ip). I'm not sure what to make of it but hopefully it helps the devs troubleshoot the problem a bit better. If they want my logs, just reply to this and ill email them to you (or you can PM me).

edit: I forgot to mention that these messages occured several times in many of my logs, and can't be localized to one specific attempt.

I had no programs on except for ethereal and eq.

Ok I've been looking through the packets some more and have uncovered more interesting information.

From what I see, the server sends me 5 full packets in a row of JUST servers.
An example of one is:

What this contains isn't important.
What I have noticed is that in the FAILED attempts instead of getting 5 full packets I seem to be getting a truncated packet containing this:

In all successive attempts the ESDefiance.EN.US server is NOT truncated in it's own small packet, however, as seen above, in the failed attempts it is. I believe this may be the source of the crashes, that the client may be trying to read a set size of a packet from the server but is only getting a portion of it, and it probably getting an index-out-of-bounds exception.

I'll try to see what other findings i can make.

What 7.0 files? you dont add any files, its a fresh install no other files, aparently your not following the wiki.

The instruction at "0x022986b8" referenced memory at "0x04671000". The memory could not be "read". Friend of mine is getting this error everytime he tries to login to EQEmu below is a picture to help you further understand the situation. Anyhelp will be greatly appreaciated! Almost forgot he tried it on both computers and got the same message each time.
