Default New posts problems

I can't seem to find if I have user setting wrong or something but here is the problem I am having. It seems that the new message notification icons only show for a certain amount of time then reset whether I read a post or not. If I come here and see some new posts, read a few, then leave (even if I leave the website open) then come back later, let's say two hours, every thread that was new when I got here is no longer marked new and I need to manually go check which ones are probably new.

Is there a setting that is wrong or what? I don't know why it marks threads read that I did not read.

I think that is just a feature built into the forums. There doesn't seem to be a setting for it as far as I know. I think it just marks them as read if you have been on the site for an hour or so, and it has always done that.

You can still quickly see recent threads in the module on the lower right of the main page here: http://www.eqemulator.org/

I normally just scroll down the index and look at the dates for any that say Today or Yesterday or whatever date.

I'd call it a bug, not a 'feature' but that's just me and my phpBB bias
