Default Camelot online eXperience Gets Logged On

Everyone knew this day would come. Some thought it wouldn't be until hell froze over, others thought it should have been done yesterday. Well, lucky for us, both of those groups were incorrect and the complete login system was decrypted and emulated today.

Yes, I said it. CoX server just hurdled the number one barrier that they had in front of them. Now CoX users can start up their own server localhost, run a patcher to point to your local server, provide your server with a username and password, click ok, then... then... well, that is where we are.

But if you know much about DAoC, getting past the login info is one of the many peaks that we will have to hurdle, however, it is by far the most important. Now work can begin on the rest of the server. To give you an idea of where we are now, the next step will be finalizing the character creation process and beginning the basic structures of the backend. As of now, the plan is to use a XML file structure as the default b/e, but will add in MSSQL, MySQL and Oracle support in the future. Scripting is still being tossed around, but at this point it is looking like JavaScript is running as the favorite for now. But that might change in the near future.

So anyways, this is our update for the time being.

Also, as I have said in the past, we are in need of some experienced C++ developers. If you have SQL or XML knowledge, that is a bonus, but our biggest need ATM is 1 maybe 2 strong c++ devs with prior EMU experience.

.. Why are you emulating DAOC?

1.) It has no PVE content.
2.) It has no 'ub3r' items to toy with.
3.) The game is boring solo. Try it. You need a LOT of people to kill in DAOC.

Any reason, please?

Because they want to :p Some people like it and don't want to pay the money every month. If there was an emulator for it, I would probably buy the game so I could play it, I don't have the money every month to be paying it, thats a reason why I quit EQ. They will probably have an admin tool like we have where you can change the mobs hps and stuff so it is soloable. I soloed fear plane with a lvl 50 character on the emu. Its probably the same for DAOC If not, you can correct me, I know nothing of this emulator. And about not having uber items, I bet they make an item creator

honestly, out of our group of devs, only one of them plays DAoC on a regular basis. The rest of us just want a project that we have control of, and a project that we can learn from.

as for server layout... your guess is as good as mine. I have never played EQ (other than about 3 hours worth) and have never used an EQEmu, however, the general plan behind the CoX server is to be setup similar to a Sphere install in that the world starts out empty, and has to be spawned, built, etc... Now, when i say we will be like Sphere, that does not mean we will use the same type of backend (txt files), it just means the server you start out with will be bare and will need to be designed in any way you and you players see fit.

as for pvp/rvr, both will be available in due time. No clue as to how either will work, but the plan is to make pvp and rvr definable at the server level. so either your server is pvp, or it's rvr, or it's both. we will also try to get these settings down to the "region" level, but again, who knows how it will all end up.

Put it simply.. it'll never work..

RVR/PVP - You need a LOT of people for this, since the world is quite large. It gets boring to RVR and have to 'hunt' for people to fight.. (How many servers can handle 20+ people?)

20 people.. that's 1 group per realm.. And, that is a BIG server!

PVE - You need a LOT of monstors to exp. That is because combat is fast-paced (Especially for groups!).

Look at how populated EQEmu is. Most EQ mobs are 26-32 minute timers in a dungeon, heh. Fights last long. You don't need a ton of kills to exp, wheras in DAOC you need SO many kills because each mob gives less exp and dies faster and easier.

You'll need SO MANY DB editors that you'll never have a near-complete DB that is populated well-enough to enjoy the gameplay.

Best of luck.

one thing you have to consider is that when people have been working on the same thing over and over with the same ideas, it's hard to see outside of the 9 dots. some people are to the point of only seeing 4 of the 9 dots.

anyways, who said CoX servers needed to be just like Mythics DAoC? Who said all CoX servers had to have RvR? Who said we would even use the same items as you currently find in DAoC?

i didn't

couple ideas to think about. Why do we even have to have releams? why couldn't the server have all 3 releams open for every one to travel and hunt in? Why couldn't there be custom monsters/items and custom skill/exp gain systems? obivously with a smaller playerbase, things would need to be different than on mythic servers.

Flexablility is one of the biggest things we are keeping in mind while building this server. Cause who wants to always have to use the same server as everyone else? If you want a server like mythic, script it. if you want on like UO, script it. If you want a fantasy porn land were monkeys run around with their thumbs up their but, script it and work on some new graphics (yes, these are customizable with our patch server)

anyways, just some food for thought here.

Sounds very kewl, will you have a full DAOC downloadable off your site? lol. I don't have the money to go buy it :(. And don't worry about Ariak, he is just trying to get his post count up, hehe :p

btw, if you ever seen my website, I am doing work that needs 5+ people to do, aka the Beastiary, I type up all the mobs pages by myself, I have no help, so maybe they are just as dedicated as I am to get this database complete, I believe they can do it! Yes, I don't get much done on the Beastiary everyday, but you gotta count in a full time job plus will be going to college at the end of this month Everything on my site was typed up by me and only me, I could use some help, but I just can't find anyone.

I'd kill for a working DAOC emu. I loved that game. Hell, i'd be willing to help develop the world and items (Items will be SUPER F*#$KING easy).

I was a WB and Item Creator for EQEmu..
I was DAOC Hero Team Leader (Worked for Mythic)
I was 1st 50 in DAOC on server, and my bot was 2nd highest at the time :P.

Since there are only 10 Teirs of armors/weapons (Aside from the magical drops), and they are in 3 textures of graphic, adding 85-90% of the game's armor will take only a matter of hours.

I'd love to help. If you're interested, contact me. I thought it over and realized it would be VERY easy to fully emulate.
