Just updated today using Rev 471 and noticed that after a few seconds of play on a SoF client my characters run/walk animation dissapears. Actually all character animations dissappear. The character is just in a solid state and hovers around the screen. If you cast a spell it casts but does not do any animations. If you zone your animation will return but after a bit of time it will go back into the same state.
Basically unplayable.

Odd, Derision fixed that issue a while back. I don't know if I would call lack of animations "unplayable" though lol.
Are you sure that you have moved the patch_SoF.conf from your /utils directory into your main server folder? Animations seem to work fine for me. I am not running 471 yet, but I am running R460 with all of the SoF changes up to R470 (holding off on using R461+).
The animations were fixed by hard setting one of the stance field in the spawn struct. That hasn't changed, so this shouldn't really be an issue. Not sure what would cause it, but worth looking into I am sure.

I would like to add that after a bit more testing I have found that once the "animation freeze" kicks in it is happening to all toons on the screen, PC or NPC. Some things look like they are going in slow motion others are just motionless.

Yes I have the patch_SoF.conf file in my directory. All worked fine before the update. I was around rev447ish before I updated.
Edit:
-rw-r--r-- 1 eq eq 19866 May 5 15:35 patch_SoF.conf
that is from an ls -l in my server directory.

Odd, I just tested from my home computer and it does not have this issue. Only the remote machine I was working on earlier is having the animation problem.
Both pcs run gentoo linux with wine 1.1.12 and nvidia drivers.
Maybe I have a corrupted file on the remote machine?
I have one more laptop I can test to see. It has the same config gentoo/wine 1.1.12/nvidia/SoF

Tested out fine on the other laptop. So this bug is isolated to the initial remote machine I tested on.
Some files must have gotten hosed up when I copied the client files to the pc over the network. It is the same client folder I use on all my pcs.
Hmmmm, new thought. I have conky running on that pc and forgot to disable it. I will have to try that next time I am sitting at that machine.
Sorry about the misunderstanding...

That packet is actually just one of the new CRC Check packets that the SoF client sends. It really only applies to EQLive, so we can ignore it.

Same errors
I have exactly the same errors in my world log but in my case, I can't get past the character selection screen.
In fact, when I get to the character selection screen, buttons don't work. I can click on them but nothing happens. There is a character names newbie jumping weirdly (looks like a glitch, not an actual jump).
I'm kinda lost as to what files I need to update in the eqemu folder and in the sof folder.
I have the lastest maps in the maps folder, I have the last quests form the svn too.
I tried running it on a single core with runfirst too (and in compatibility mode and as an administrator).
I should say that I'm running it on windows vista 64.
I also tried connecting to a bunch of private servers and I have the same bug on each and every one of them. I can get to the character selection screen but I am stuck there.
Any hint to what my problem could be?
thanks for your help

As I said, those particular "error" messages can be ignored. They aren't an error at all really, just a log of the packet that is coming in. Nothing to do with your issue.
Your issue sounds like a multi-core CPU issue. I don't really know much about Vista 64, but I think some people have been able to get it working for the emulator. If you are running an AMD processor, you might try downloading the AMD drivers to see if that helps. I think the FAQ in my sig has some suggestions about what to do with muliti-core issues and should have a link to find the AMD drivers if needed. If it is intel, then I don't really know.
Also, you mention having an SoF folder. Are you trying to play with just an SoF installation? You haven't tried Titanium yet? If so, then the issue is very likely that the servers you have tried don't have SoF enabled on them yet. If you have access to the Public Login Server, try PEQ or Storm Haven and see if you can get logged in ok. Both of those servers run very recent updates from the SVN and both have SoF enabled on them.

I run my server on Vista 64, with the exception of now that I switched it to Linux. I also run the client on Vista 64, and I've never had any issues. As long as you're up to date on all your stuff there shouldn't be any issues with vista. Just have to always deal with UAC, or turn it off.

I have those same problems when I try to connect to any server (I get stuck on character selection screen). I guess my problem is with vista 64 then. I tried runfirst to run eq on a single core but it didn't work at all.
Right now I'm trying to get my own server working. I am using R486 eqemu with all the lastest database and changes available on the svn.
I tried titanium but it was even worst than secrets of faydwer. At least with sof I get to the character selection screen but I get stuck there .
I dont have any problems with any game except eq.
I have this line in my dbg.txt and I really dont know what it means
[Thu May 14 21:41:04 2009]00073:Failed to open C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\EverQuest\GlobalDRK_chr.s3d.
Is that file even supposed to exist? I didn't have it in my fresh sof install.
thanks for your help

You can ignore that line in your EQ debug file, that is normal to see and isn't an issue as far as I know.
It sounds like you are still having a multi core CPU issue. Are you using an Intel or an AMD processor? Intel's seem to work perfectly without needing any changes in most operating systems, but AMDs normally need drivers installed, at least in XP or so for them to work right. Though, Vista should have those working already as long as your updates are current. Probably the reason that SoF works better for you is because it has better multi-core support than Titanium does. Have you tried going through the options screen before the login screen again to make sure it saves your settings properly before playing? Once you edit those options, you have to exit EQ and restart it for the changes to take effect. Might be a good idea to restart your whole PC if you haven't tried that already.
Oh, what version of DirectX are you running? I hear EQ doesn't like DX10 much.

Hi Trevius,
ok when I thought I was stuck at the character screen, I really wasn't. I could get in my server but I had another problem.
Listen to this, it is kinda weird. I thought I was stuck because buttons didn't work when I clicked on them. In fact they are working but I have to click repeatedly on any button for it to work. The animations of the character are too fast and my mouse clicks are too fast.
I finally succeeded in creating a character (by drilling on the buttons) and got into the game. When I got in the game, I noticed that my character is running way, WAY too fast. So, everything is way too fast at the character selection screen and way too fast in game.
My pc is very fast but I don't understand why eq is faster than it should be.
I'm running the game on a single core with runfirst too.
do you have any idea what I could do to make the game run at a normal speed?
thanks for your help
