Is a network connection required to make my own server and play on it?

Over the next few weeks I am going to be in the car alot (as a passenger) and I wanted to see if it would be possible to create a server and play even though I won't be connected to the internet or a LAN.

I didn't post in the support section because I haven't tried yet. Just wondering if it is possible.

Very much so. In fact, most all of the "how to's " for server setup were written with hosting server & client on the same machine in mind. Just check out this sites wiki. Tons of info there. Also, use the search function for any hiccups you get along the way, even more info on these boards!
