Anyone know how to do this? Something is weighing my system down. system monitors show memory usage is low so its got to be something else... Compaq is 2 years old but still....

If you're running Win9x then you prolly just need to do a fresh OS reinstall. I used to do an OS reinstall every 4-6 months when I ran win95/98/ME

(PS anyone know how to test the cpu? hehe)
I think the freeware version of SiSoft Sandra will benchmark your CPU ...
http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/
In XP, hit CTRL-ALT-DELETE and click on 'Processes' and then click on the 'CPU' column to see which process is using the most processor time.

I don't know... My girlfriend had a dying Windows laptop. I installed Slackware linux on it, and it takes FOREVER just to boot up. I think the memory is defective, or that there's not enough to run anything.

Might be a virus... Some viruses can mask the resources they use... And just bog down your system resources...

hehe you need to update your windows, they put the fix for that out months ago, if you had it it deleted it, if you didnt it made it so you couldnt get it. Hense you need to update.

I am amazed your computer survived this long with said worm and virus in your computer...
You should keep it and put it out to pasture... It has won a war!
