View Full Version : Starting a new server for personal testing initially...

Just a question on the method of how one would set up a server for testing (to make sure there are no bugs or random crashes) without having like 5 ppl jump in b/c it's a new server. I mean I have no problems with other playing on it, just more that I don't want to piss people off when I take it down to fix things ever 10 mins or so. I mean I would like to know the "protocol" (for lack of a better word) to follow for initially setting up a server and politely letting people know that it's still in a development stage from a personal standpoint.

To let people know that your server is still in a testing stage just put (Testing) in the name or something like that. Oh and just so you know I found this post odd, I mean...

politely letting people know that it's still in a development stage from a personal standpoint.

Wtf? Not use to that word here  .

hey, I know everyone's fond of mattmeck's style of "getting things done" but sometime situation dictates that you shouldn't just piss everyone off you come into contact with. :D

And I do thank you for the reply in such manner instead of the "mattmeck" generalized style of reply

You could also LOCK the server, that way you don't have to even worry about anyone coming onto your server.

Looks up for a post in this thread where he must have already posted because he got talked about. But cant see anything People who read first never have an issue with me, its the people who ask questions that have been asked a dozen times and do a new thread right on top of others asking the same question that do. People just need to realize with a project this large most issues have already been covered all they have to do is look for there answer. When i was in the army my Commander told me i had a very polite way of telling people to go f*ck themselves, but i cant stand lazyness / stupidity. and the fact of the matter is, most people i am just plain rude to have already sent me e-mailes / PM's asking me or the Devs the same question and just didnt like the answer so they do make a thread asking a question when the already know the answer, or were told where to look. Of corse people are mind readers and know EVERYTHING that is going on so they can judge people here right?

Nod, I understand that, except you can't lock it initially to make the original account to test with.

And you're right matt, though never in there did I say I had a problem with your style of replying to such when people are lazy. I was referring more to the politeness style of a reply vs. the "mattmeck generally known newbieslaying" style of reply.

I was a Mental Health Specialist is the Army for a couple years and the Shrink i worked for told me, I would do great in the Mental health field because im good at putting myself in other shoes, however i would not make it in that field because i have a short leash when it comes to lazyness / idioticy.

The perfict example would be the solder who says there going to kill themselfs because they dont want to go on a 2 week field problem.. My god i hated them. or the Wifes who came in and sayd if there Hubbt gose to the field one more time there going to divorce them. the list gose on and on.

The sad part that people dont realize is, how people act on forum is a direct reflection on how they are in there real life.
