I was thinking, since we got the 5.0 out (thanks btw), and an item editor for the database:
You could make a revamped EverQuest with new (and harder) mobs for each zone, dropping Gm-tagged loot better than Time-gear. The mobs could be made harder and harder (and loot better and better) in the same kind of pattern as real EQ, getting more and more difficult from Vex Thal to Plane of Time, and made so that people couldn't defeat them unless they'd gotten some gear from the lower tier (or VT, Ssra or any place lower than that). so Basically they'd have to work their way through, also since they couldn't summon the gear, because it's been gm-tagged.
I'll give an example:
Vex Thal has been revamped, and is supposedly the easiest of the revamped zones. The first boss is at the entrance and is called something "Guardian of Vex Thal". A group of adventurers kill him, and it drops:
Symbol of Akhevan Masters
MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM NO DROP
Slot: NECK
AC: 35
STR: +15 DEX: +20 STA: +25 AGI: +15 WIS: +15 INT: +20 CHA: +15
SV MAGIC: +20 SV FIRE: +20 SV COLD: +25 HP: +250 MANA: +260
Required level of 65.
Effect: Regeneration X (Worn)
WT: 2.0 Size: SMALL
Class: ALL
Race: ALL
Slot 1, type 8: Empty
... and some other stuff of the same quality. So they would farm some bosses in that Vex Thal entrance area, and maybe kill the boss who drops greater stuff. The quality should be centered around the ac, hp and mana really, 200-230 being Time gear quality, and the new gear being better than that. I'm not sure how balanced this would work, or if it could even be made so that the gear would be crucial to kill bosses in - let's say - the revamped Plane of Tactics, I'm sure it'll probably need tuning at first, but I think you get the idea.
They would start with level 65, as many aa's as they want and the best gear they can summon. The targets should be "raid" targets, doable by maybe 6-12 people, since more are not very likely to be on a server at the same time. This would of course mean a lot of work, but it should be doable I think. It would also give the creators a chance to leave out the boring and laggy zones, such as Plane of Water.
Other ideas would be to make some items recommended or required level 70, 75 etc., and then make xp areas with mad xp, and a change of the levelsystem (which I've heard and seen been done), to allow those levels.
They could even make guilds as in the real EQ to take the raid-targets down.
As for the mobs themselves: I realize that the emu doesn't really have AE-effects or procs on mobs (although the ladder could be added with equipped weapons), so the bosses and "trash" mobs would have to increase in difficulty by the means of hitting harder, which would mean that the majority of the upgrades should go to warriors, paladins and shadowknights.
Also, due to the fact of the low population of a so called server, mobs shouldn't have that many hitpoints.
I don't think I'm capable of making such a server myself, but please give feedback on it, and maybe some server GM could take the idea to heart and bring it to life?
