OK I quit playing EQ a while ago, but recently have decided to come back to Emu. I want to set up my own server, but since I quit, my computer has been reformatted and I now have XP. This also means I no longer have EverQuest. I still have my CDs, but I want to know if I can start my own Emu server w/o setting up an EQLive account and without patrching from EQLive. Is this possible at all?

1) you don't need an EQLive account to patch to live
2) EDIT (see ark's post)

you can setup your own server even if you don't have the EQ client. Please refer to the Many Many posts and guides in these forums for how to setup the server and how to configure your client to connect to emu servers.

I know i don't need an account to patch live, but I don't want to patch live at all. Do I have to have patched in order to make a server?

You don't need EQ at all to make your own server (except for the spell file from the current patch, it's listed in the guide), as explained above, but you won't be able to log in to it with an everquest client that is not patched to the current patch as of november something or other. The devs here keep it current, for reasons explained in other threads.
The short answer: You must be patched to current EQ Live patches in order to play on the current server version 5-0.
You don't need to patch at all to make a server, but anyone who wants to play on your server, including you, NEEDS to patch their client to live before they can connect to it.

What i just posted is bollocks (tm). You do need to patch to live to get the latest spells_us.txt, which you need to copy to your eqemu directory.
