Error 1017.... Yes ive read the other 1017 posts

Im using the 5.0 guide in the "guide" section.

Everythings running great up to the "run eq" part.

i can see all the servers in the server list....can connect to everyones except my own...so i know its something wth my server.

ive disabled my firewall....cable modem running thru my linksys router.

ive set up all the files in the build dir just like the guide says.


i load up world.exe....runs fine.....then load boot5zones.exe...runs fine (as far as i can tell)

but when i click to load into my server, i get the 1017 error everytime.

Just curious what i can do about this.


Now this also may be a very stupid question, but does EQ + expansions + patched to live need to be somwhere on the sys thats running the server software.....Im guesing it does...but it does not say this anywhere in the guide.

Im willing to bet this is my problem, so i just need to know where it needs to be installed to be on my way :)

If its not...then i need a few quick tips to fixing my 1017 error....

No the EQ client does not need to be installed on the server. the only thing you need from the client on the server is the spells_us.txt in the same folder as your binaries.

as long as you have the correct Spells file you do not need EQ installed on the host computer.


As to the 1017, there is hundreds of threads that discuss this. Do a search for 1017 and check out what pops up :wink:

well i havent fixed anything, so everything ive read hasnt worked.


ive tried the mysql and INSERT INTO account name thing...it added fine, but when i loaded up world.exe and boot5zones, then tried to log in, i get the same 1017 error.


thats all ive really found about fixing the error, and its not working for me. so im stumped.


Am i doing something wrong?

im loading world.exe...then boot5zones.bat....then running eq from my main machine.

Also im reading in all these posts about minilogin...no clue what that is...is that my problem? Its not mentioned in the guide heh.


What i really need, is a step by step guide on how to fix this one problem, since all the posts on it have different ways to fix it, and some people cant get that way to work....its all very cluttered heh :)

what exactly did you mean by this? disabled firewall on your computer? Put the server in the dmz? eh?

Along with what mattmeck said, be nice to see what errors if any you get in the world and zone servers and what your config files look like. ~

the windows xp personal firewall (right click properties on network places...etc...)

disabled on all comps.

my config files look EXACTLY like they should per the 5.0 server guide on this website.

i have not changed anything, done anything extra, or not done something that isnt in the 5.0 guide.

So...that should narrow it down to where im at. (step 16...RUN EQ!)


On the server, i run world....then boot5zones.....wait a sec....then go to Main pc, and run the eqgame.exe patchme shortcut per the connect guide on this website.

I get the server lists, i see my server, i click to connect, it gets to the first loading screen, then pops back to server list, with the 1017 error.

My server also shows the "LOCKED" in blue to the right side on the server list....if that helps anyone.

Your still not giving enough info, What your doing is saying my foot hurts why????? and not saying you dropped a box on it :twisted:

Be Detailed, what exactly are the error, what exactly have you dont to fix it, what exactly dose your Boot 5 zones say? ect ect

ok, i get the 1017 error: cannot connect to everquest server. You may need to repatch...etc.


when i load the world.exe i get this: (manually copied from server screen)

[status] emusharemem loaded
[status] loading items from database (and then loads a bunch of stuff

[status] deleted 0 stale players corpses from database
[status] deleted 0 stale player backups from database
Warning: you need to get laid (random msg, changes each time i run this)

connected to loginserver: eqlogin1.eqemulator.net:5997






when i use boot5zones i get :


5 seperate windows with these in them:

[status] loading zone names
[status] loading items
[status]emusharemem loaded




I then go to my main machine, use eqgame.exe patchme shortcut that i made, it connects, logs in with my forum user/pw....see the server list and my server with "LOCKED" in blue.

Click play on my server.

Get the error 1017.



The ONLY thing i have done to fix this, is the INSERT INTO account SET name path that is listed in the sticky on one of the 1017 error posts.


I have done nothing else, and have followed the 5.0 server guide to the letter up to this step.

you have a DB error is the first thing i see.


see the server list and my server with "LOCKED" in blue.

You wont be able to log in anyway, because its locked.

You cact edit accounts befor the person logs in and creates it :lol:

The 1017 may be because of the DB error above tho. Search around others have had this happen check in the world building forum for your answered.

I thought the server owner could log into his own locked server. It just bans people of lesser rights.

The server owner can as long as they logged in with it unlocked first to flag the account. You can not create an account in the DB ahaid of time.

Are you using the default db.sql or using the MWnpb_blah_.sql (TCS' Moving DB)?

I had this problem. I wasn't waiting long enough for the zones to finish loading the data and go into sleep mode. Try it with one zone and wait a while and see what happens.

Also, on your Linksys router, what ports have you forwarded to your machine.

I assume you have read a guide on forwarding the ports

I read in your initial posting that you have a cable modem and linksys router. I'm assuming that the linksys router is located behind the cable modem. The previous post hints that you may need to set up port forwarding for your cable modem as well as open the ports on your linksys router.

I'm behind a Westell modem with a D-Link router.

You don't do anything to the modem (not that you could even if you wanted to) The port forwarding is done on the router.
