View Full Version : Can't Play 5.2 servers

Korou

For some reason, I can't connect to any 5.2 servers. I did all the stuff, like editing the files, etc. but can't connect. 5.0 and 5.1 servers work completely fine.

Same here. I used to be able to connect to 5.1 servers (like
Regean's before he took it down one night) then after that I can
only connect to 5.0 servers. This started happening with 5.2
servers started popping up and now I only have choice between
maybe 3 or 4 servers atm.

Am I supposed to download the EQEmu thing and put it in my Everquest folder? My friend, who got it to work, says I do, so I tried it, and still nothing.

Korou, You don't need to download eqemu to play on other people's servers. You only need to update your eqhost.txt file and have everquest installed correctly on your harddisk (see tutorials forum).
Tho, i don't know what's the problem with 5.2 servers.
and please, if you install eqemu, don't install it INTO your everquest directory.

Windows XP Home (Pro is warz, and cant update it)
1.2ghz processor, 512 megs of ram.
HD size i dont think matters

I also am having this problem, but I think that mine is database related, and it might even involve the quests in the zone that all my characters got stuck in.

On the BB server, I am unable to connect. When I am at the server screen and i select BB, and press play or whatever, it does its normal "Submitting player to world server.." but when the screen shifts from that to the one that says its loading, eq crashes.

I have determined that this is database related because on my old account (mehownzu), I was able to log in and actually play until my character ended up in oasis, which crashes the character out of the zone and does not allow me to login because of the crash above.

I have the most recent patches from live (i think.. the last one i got was the one that put berserker in the character selection screen, and i think was one or two weeks ago).. do you think this is causing me to not be able to connect? Any feedback would be appreciated.

EDIT: I would also like to state that I have no (KNOWN) problems connecting to 5.0 servers or 5.1 servers.. but I'll try this when I get home (at school at the moment) and see if I can crash it the same way on a different server.

I run Pro (not what you might call legally) and can update it just fine.

Pro ate my girlfriend's computer. It did NOT like being updated. It also did not approve of hardware changes. It was pirated, and now she's free and clear and using linux.

We're still recovering the data off the perfectly fine hard drive where it locked her data and refused to boot.

Has 5.2 been released? It's not in the files section. I haven't looked at CVS yet.

I just cant download the USEFUL stuff, like SP1 because my buddy already got it, and it attempts to connect to the interweb to verify the key. I guess i could download it and take this comp off the network while i get it to work, but I dont really use windows enough (only for gaming) to really worry much.

But, thats not what I'm worried about, more worried about not being able to connect

and now she's free and clear and using linux.

Wish I could find a decient looking girl that uses linux.

I read the tutorials, did what they said at least 20 times, searched for an answer, I found nothing, then I asked my brother to change the firewall to allow EQ through, still nothing, can someone help me here?!?!

If you get a properly cracked version of pro you can update to SP1 no problems.

Rogean, I checked 3rd party tools and your profile for your game starter - could you put it in your sig or make a sticky in 3rd party tools?

Korou, there are very few things that will keep you out of a server.

1. Wrong eqhosts.txt file
2. Wrong password
3. Router configured to not forward ports (I forget which)
4. Server is configured wrong
5. Everquest files are not exactly patched right.

Which ones can you guarantee are eliminated so far?

Wrong password X
Router wrong X
Wrong eqhosts.txt file X

These are all that you can really control. If your files work with 5.0DR1, then you should be fine for DR2. The problem seems to lie in the servers. Post the ones that you are having problems with.

Korou

The last one might be the problem, cuz the password is correct, cuz I can connect to 5.0 and 5.1 servers without a problem. I've checked the router and the firewall, no problems, and how can the eqhosts.txt file be wrong if I can connect to some servers? Maybe it's my comp or theres something in the server thats wrong, or maybe my EQ just dosen't want to work right. I don't think it has anything to do with my system specs (HD space, video card, etc.). It might be my RAM because I have 256 MB, but disabled some of the high quality models for better performance, and it runs perfect with the models and texture settings I picked. So if someone could help me, that would be nice :D

EDIT- Problem servers (a_Guest just added this as I was typing my message)

Servers I'm having problems with:

BrightBlade
FishWolf Dimension
Rogean's All-GM server
Bramblewood
PLZ EXPLR

Could you post an error message or the situational changes that lead up to you "not being able to connect"?

Do you:

A: Enter password, choose server, end at desktop?
B: Enter password, choose server, enter server, timeout shortly, end at server select?
C: Enter password, choose server, timeout immediately, end at server select?
D: encounter a combination of the above that you will describe?
E: have an altogether different experience that you would like describe?

P.S. to mehltd: Girls don't come with linux. You must find a pretty one who's into exotic things *cough*. It didn't hurt that she thought penguins were cute. But I'm just lucky that she's cute - she won the latin award high school graduation, recognizing her focus on learning the language inside and out.

Greetings, Alot of people seem to be haveing a problem loging into brightBlade. As the Server admin of it I am not sure what the problem is, The database is current and I can connect from both work and at home and have no problem getting into the server.

I am currently running the latest version of eq aswell. Anyone have some suggestions to try? Perhaps it could be the account and character_ tables? are messed up in my database? Who knows! Thanks for anyone that is able to give me input.

But it comes up with an error

eqgame.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the informationg you were working on might be lost.

Since it works in 5.0DR1, here's my advice to you:

:x

:?

I am out of ideas.

It could be a client problem, or it could be a code problem. I don't know if it can or cannot be a database problem. Eliminate the other possibilities.

Hmmmm... ok

Let's see...

I have the latest version of EQ, along with all expanision packs (something in Sony's patcher let me download all of the files for all of the expansion packs with all models, zones, changes, everything.) It took me an hour and a half to download, so I don't think thats a problem. (Original install was EQ Trilogy)

Running EQ Windows, runs smooth and everything (but been having errors before EQW)

So uhhhhh... I dunno what the problem is either.... Ummmmm... Its not that good on some 5.0-5.1 servers cuz they're not as populated and some don't have all of the zones. My friend wants me to play on the FishWolf server with him and stuff... So I hope this problem gets solved soon so I can play on the same server as everyone else...

its not a code problem its a server/user problem....

Edgar1898
12-03-2003, 08:45 AM
What ports did you open for everquest?

Korou
12-03-2003, 08:50 AM
5997

Edgar1898
12-03-2003, 08:52 AM
you have to open port 9000 also

Korou
12-03-2003, 09:28 AM
Do they need to be UDP or TCP ports?

Edgar1898
12-03-2003, 09:34 AM
just make it both to be sure, I think its tcp, but I'm not sure

Korou
12-03-2003, 09:39 AM
I just talked with my bro, and he said that I don't need the router open to connect to a server, just host one.

Edgar1898
12-03-2003, 10:15 AM
actually the server sends information to the player on port 9000 also, but if you dont want to try it then dont, but the issue is on your end if you tried all the servers as you claimed. There is nothing wrong with the code.

Dont ask for support if your not willing to try what we recommend.

Something to try - Downgrade your files using EQEmu patcher and then upgrade them again with EQLive...

For some reason that fixed an error I was getting.

I have serioues connection issues as well. I used to be able to connect decently (except for a few stretches once or twice), but on tuesday I logged off and went to class, and I have not been able to log on since. About half the time, when I select a server (any server but BrightBlade) it boots me back to the login screen. On those occasions when it DOES load the world and get to the chara select screen, no matter what I do (deleting old chars and making new ones, etc) it always, once I select a char, beigns loading and then hangs up, causing me to eventually have to end task it. I have tried using EQW, and also just running EQ normally with patchme, and no differance. its frustrating as all hell, hehe. Oh, on the occasions where it doesn't let me connect to the server at all and just boots me back to login, when I DO log back in it gives me the little "Could not connect to EQ server, may need to re-run update patch, etc etc..." And before you ask, yes, I DO have ALL the EQ files for every expansion. Hopefully thats a good thing, :P.

Oh right. When I try to connect to BrightBlade, without fail (except ONE time), eqgame.exe crashes. ^^

EDIT: I am behind a network firewall somewhere, presumably, since I am on a college campus. Could that be the issue? I remember having similar problems back on my old computer in Utah as well, though.

EDIT EDIT: Oh, and I can connect to EQLive just fine. ^^;

This is the error that I keep getting:

http://golem.ibrower.com/sites/pics/eqerror.jpg

I don't think it has anything to do with my router.

I'll try that...

I'm lucky to find just a girl with how shy I am.

Conan, All my characters are stuck in oasis and I cant even connect to your servers (eqgame.exe has performed an illegal blah blah blah). delete accounts and characters corresponding to accounts mehltd and mehownzu for me, and ill try from there. I just hope you'll recognize my 65 war and #level me whenever i get it working.

I get the exact same error as korou (sorry if mispelled) -- it was formerly only with account mehltd. I tried connecting with account mehownzu, and was able, until i got into oasis. Oasis crashed both accounts, and since then I've been unable to get in. :P I dont use eqw, and am patched up to where beserker is started to display on char creation screen. Do you think this is what is causing the problem?

5.0 and 5.1 servers connect just fine, and i set myself to DMZ when playing eq, so port forwarding does not apply to me.

:D

ok this is how i got 5.2 to work

Patch EQ to Live Dec 7th 2003 works or whenever that patch was,

then Repatch EQEmu Patcher

go into your EQ directory and Cut the new EQhost.txt or something along the lines of that file name.

Place it in any other folder for the time being.

Repatch EQ Live again. Go into your EQ directory and put that EQhost file backinto it after everything has patched, and the patcher screen is still up, then hit play should work, and compatible with EQ windows.

You have a router right? You may need to open some ports or set a DMZ.
