Where are you logging on? How many different servers have you tested it on? Define "crash".

Are you using an Athlon?

Happens to me on every server. I get in and it says "everquest has detected that your client may have crashed"

Exactly what im getting from point when i get in the game. I just have to hit ctrl+alt+delete to get it from not freezing my computer... So :(

Naviar, are you using an Athlon?

I was just reading on the EQLive message boards and this appears to be a common problem. There are many people complaining about client crashes and they all seem to be running athlon processors with nvidia graphics cards. So it appears to be a client problem, and not a server problem. We can only hope the SOE will patch the client to fix the problem, and the the EQEmu team catches up to live again, as they have so many times in the past.

Until then, I guess we'll have to sit tight.

I dont think that is it because it never does this is regular EQ. And i do know how to fix it, you just gotta deleate a few files from eq directory, and let the patch screen get you new ones, but seeing that if i patch i cant play the EMU, im just gunna have to deal with it for now =/

I have had this problem occasionally, and I'm also using an athlon with an nvidia card. I only notice it zoning into certain zones, though. I don't think I've ever successfully zoned into west freeport, for example. Try different zones if you haven't. It's not a fix, but if it works at least you'll be able to play.

Count me in on getting client crashes, it has to do something with new chracter creation, well atleast "I think" Because I was able to log on for awhile with my newer characters I made about a week ago, then I can't and when I make new ones the client just crashes. But my old 5.2 char that was saved I believe logs in fine.

Im not 100% sure on the problem , but I believe it is serverside. That could be wrong though. Ofking direct X, Gates of discord better be the fix.

In one of those discussions I found this --

Hey Guys,

I've been having the same crashing issues as have been described above since the Dec.18th patch. I have an AMD and nVidia video card. I've talked to tech support about 10 times. Last time I talked to them, they told me that Sony recognized the problem and are working to fix it. He advised me to wait until the next patch...which apparently won't be until Feb.10th. I've also posted on here and have made NUMEROUS changes to my computer to no avail.

This might will help some of you. see my bug report on 1/5:
http://www.eqemulator.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12185

So in short, I run a 5.3-DR2 server and my client crashes a lot after I upgraded to 5.3-DR2, for a limited number of zones like west freeport etc. Then I modified my DB according to Image's suggestion, quote Image: "Thats a glitch with database safe points, you can either in variables put UseCfgSafeCoords and set the value to 1 or you can update your db safe coords (in zone table)."
and it wont crash the client anymore.

So if your client only crash for certain zones, then it's the problem of the server database. Try west freeport and see if that's the case. If it's server side, send a request to the server admin to get this corrected. If not, you'll have to finger out the processor/videocard stuff yourself, since I am not aware of that and I cant lend any help.

I get the same error without an Athalon. Just zoning to Neriak my wizard got lost... lots of times when you zone you appear with about every mob in the place on top of you. Then, sometimes, presumably because too many mobs are occupying one place, it just won't load anymore. My wiz, I fear, is lost to the world because I tried to zone normally into Neriak.

Hi everyone, I don't have an answer for this but for the sake of narrowing down the problem:
I've been playing EQ for 3 years, and I've never had my client crash on live servers.
I started EQEmu about a year and a half ago, and then quit maybe 4 months later. (A lot has changed, im aware) back then I never had any trouble with client crashes.
Recently I got back into EQEmu but I have not yet been able to login at all. I can get to the character select screen (Which, has 0 characters available so I must create one). After allocating stats and selecting race/class combo there's nothing more I can do because once I hit next to move on to Char name/etc I get the client crash error. I am using an NVidia graphics card, but a celeron processor, not an AMD. Once again I have never seen this happen on Live EQ, and I frequently am making new characters. I really can't wait to see the fix for this problem, I am wondering if for my sake it has to do with the changes that were made to the character creation process.

@Stabm if you patched as of the 10th and beyond, you will not be able to play until the dev team fixes what SOE has changed... You can play on Shawn319's server though, as his IS working with the newest patch.
If you havent patched at least up to 1/24/04 then you will only be able to play on 0.5.3 servers... If you patched before 1/14/04 and (I think) a patch or so before that, you will only be able to play on 0.5.2 servers (which are becoming VERY rare hehe)... If you have patched client before that you will not be able to play until you can patch to live...

*Note: the dates are not meant to be totally accurate, but to give you an idea of where eqemu is as opposed to the eqlive patching.

To fix this problem you must

Delete these files from your EverQuest Directory:

EQMain.dll
EQGfx_dx8.dll
EQClient.ini
EQGame.exe
EQHardware.ini
EQOptions1.opt
EQOptions2.opt
All files in the \Userdata folder
Any file with your Character's Name in it
The zone files your character is in.

I suggest this:

1) Make sure your motherboard drivers are up to date. This may be the most important update of all.
2) End task on all background programs and goto Trend Micro's Site and click on SCAN NOW and run a complete scan on your entire pc.
3) Windows Updates from www.Microsoft.com
4) Reinstall DirectX
5) Reinstall your Video Card Driver

Do it like this(it must be done exactly like this-yes resets everytime)
Download the directX 9.0b driver and save it. (do not install it).
Okay here goes:
1.) Uninstall the Nvidia driver.
2.) Restart your machine
3.) Uninstall DirectX driver.
4.) Restart your machine.
5.) Install the saved directX driver 9.0b
6.) Restart your machine.
7.) Install the Nvidia 53.03 driver (or the latest for your card)
8.) Restart your machine.
9.) Try logging into EQ

It will work then, worked for me and a whole lotta other people.

The only problem is, now with the new patching you will be unable to play EQ. To solve this, make a backup of your EQGAME.EXE, delete the files above, do what It says to do above, run the patch, redownload the files, and overwrite the new EQGAME.EXE to play with the old servers on EQEmu or you can just Use the Neq EQGAME.EXE to play on EQEmu's test server :)
