hey, i've already done a few searches, but couldn't find what i was looking for.

i want to backup my eqemu-working files onto a cd but as you all know it takes a lot of space. what im asking is which files do i absolutely need? i know i can just burn the entire everquest folder onto about 3 or 4 cd's but i dont want save any common files like the zones or character stuff (which i can get from my orig eq cd's or the patcher)

thanks

No you cant, the point of backing up is to back up EVERYTHING. If they make a lot of changes to the common files (which has already been done which is why you cant use a fresh install) and you patch to get them then you wont be able to play.

We say back EVERYTHING up for a reason. If you dont have the required HD space to copy the EQ directory and zip it, just bur it onto a bunch of CD's.

We cant tell you what files will be needed to go back after the next patch because we dont know what there going to change with the next patch.

If you want to take a chance, and actually have it backed up to JUST 1 CD. Backup everything EXCEPT the *.s3d files. That ought to make the risk of it being worthless pretty small since they don't often change them. And they are what take up most of the space.

Remember a FULL backup is much better! But most of the time the above should work.

[Edit] realized that without just the s3d file the rest easily fit on a CD, so no need to complicate things.

Just use winrar (www.rarlabs.com) to compress the whole folder. Select size of 650MB so it breaks up the compressed files into sizes you can burn on your cd-r. I'm sure WinZip has a similiar feature.
