Season's Greetings.
First, I do see the login server is giving us problems, so that's not what I'm asking about, per se.
Firstly, been playing fine for a while, until I left for X-mas, with my initial EQ client, the original game, no expansion packs. I'd been playing through port 5997 happily. Came back, had to do a bit of switching around of things (see below) but after setting this to eqlogin3, I was able to connect, no problem.
Now the problem. Over X-mas, I picked up Everquest Evolution, the 3-CD set with EQclassic and expansion packs up to but not including Lost Dungeons of Norrath. Thinking just to be safe, I renamed my everquest directory to something else (this is the one I'm now able to run the game with) and installed the newer version of EQ. I then copied over the three files I had originally changed when I initially started playing EQ and got a 1002 error. So, I searched the site and found that apparently I had to change my 5997 port number to 5999. Did that, connected, saw a single server, listed as DOWN, so got to looking around and discovered the problems going on over the holidays.
So, here's the "puzzle": EQ Original works when I connect to eqlogin3:5997. All good. It also shows me the list of servers with "world down" messages when I use eqlogin1:5997. This is apparently as it should be. EQlogin1 is broke, EQlogin3 is the temp fix.
New EQ (Evolution) shows me the list of servers (or One Down Server) on EQlogin1:5999. Since it's down, there's nothing to connect to, but the scroll at the top says to go to EQlogin3 to play. EQlogin3:5997 gives EQEvo the 1002 error (just like it did normally, so I assume all's well there) However, on doing the next logical thing, using EQlogin3:5999, I get a 1001 error (try again later). Has port 5999 not been set up for logging in?
Also, is a single (down) server the normal state for those with EverQuest Evolution? And if so is there some way to salvage things so I can get the expansion pack value and still have access to a respectably long list of servers?
