View Full Version : Some Questions about EQemu

I have recently been playing Ultima Online via emulator and I find it rather enjoyable however Ultima has some of the "worst" graphics for any professional online game I have played as of late so I decided to search the net for an EQ emulator and I found this. As I have recently purchased the EQ trilogy I am interested in playing it for free via emulator however I would like to know some things about this emulator. So here is my list of queries
1: Is a EQemu server similar to the real one?
2: If I would host my own server would I have to spawn it on my own or is there a pre-spawned world available?
3: Is it relatively easy to set up my own server (I have alot of skills when it comes to computers)
4: Is there a readily available "map editor" to add my own areas to explore?
5: Is the server once set up easily editable (ex. adding new areas to explore or new items/spells)
Please bear with my questions and if you do not wish to answer them point me to a location to get them answered.
Thank you for any and all assistance,
-Gene

Yes, there are tons of servers...not just one. Legit(like live), non-legit(commands to cheat, hehe), and semi-legit(summoning items, but leveling)
You'd do all the spawns yourself...your server...you do the shit on it.
Using the guide, if you're decently adept using a computer(and following directions), it will be.
Some maps are in the game now, like certain zones, in the game press backspace. There may be a map of that certain zone, if not...there are maps downloadable, and printable.
www.eqatlas.com for the printable ones
www.eqtoolbox.com for downloadable ones
Yes, you control your server, you can bring it down, lock it, edit w/e and bring it back up.
If you have no knowledge of EQ period, i.e. lore etc, I pray for you. Best damn game every made, but there's alot to it.

You can create new zones with OpenZone, but your sever will have to support ZoneProxy for people to be able to use them. You can find information on both in the 3rd party tools section.
You can find pre-spawned databases in the World Building section.
Many of the questions you're likely to have have already been answered countless times...if you use the forum Search function you're 99.99999% likely to find the answer you need. Also, a lot of the really pertinent stuff is sticked at the tops of forums.

There's a program to put Everquest into a windowed form. It will make it much easier serfing the web finding out EQ info and such with this windowed program.
www.eqwindows.com
There is an in-game window mode on the live Everquest, but it's shit. Not sure if it's in EMU, never used full screen on it. Always use the windowed program.
Best of luck.

LOL
Dear God, have mercy on his poor soul........What I think John meant was the Lore condition on items, meaning that you can only have one of them.

Of course it is, it's client side after all and for me it works better than EQwindows (when running two EQs at the same time that is)

Thanks John I'll look into that page. And I have a few more questions that I would like answered...
1b. Are there random magical items like in diablo or are items pre-enchanted?
2b. If I were to play a Dark Elf Necromancer would I be attacked by nearly all guards?
3b. Does EQ have a 1st person or a 3rd person view?(Just installed and am working on getting a server up AHHHHHH)
Thats all for now thanks for the help.
Cheers,

Items are made, you can customize them, so i guess its pre-enchanted.
If I were to play a Dark Elf Necromancer would I be attacked by nearly all guards?
Thats your choice, you controle everything
Does EQ have a 1st person or a 3rd person view?(
Your choice.

Can EQemu be played offline via a lan connection cause me and a few of my pals wanna form a party o' noobies and get ourselves killed. And if it can be played offline do my friends need to register here to play as I already have?
Thanks,
-Gene

Been surfing the forum and I saw a post saying you can't run EQ on the same pc as EQemu this true? And I have a semi-beffy puter(GeForce4 - 512mb ram - 120gig harddrive) will this be sufficient to run both EQ and the emulator at the same time or should I find one of my old puters (GeForce4 - 256mb ram - 9gig harddrive) and use my good one as a server?
 ,

Yes you can, SOE cant tell your using EQEMU unless you go around telling people.

With an AMD 2.4GH 1gig DDR pc2700 ram and a decient cable connection I could host 15 or so people on my server, unless I logged into the server from the same computer running it. At that point 4-5 of us could be on as long as noone cast or fought.
with fighting / casting I could handle 2-3 people with some lag.

Mattmeck: You didn't understand my post, what I ment was running both the server AND the client so I could play on the same pc as the sever was running on. And Im only hosting 2 people and its on a LAN if that matters.
Sorry,
