Asking where you can download EQemu on this forum is now a instantly banable offense.

If you can't even read the name of the links on the main page, we do not want you playing.

Wow, sorry. Guess I need to learn to read minds. My wife always says the same thing. Sorry bro. I'm new to running a server and to this whole deal. Sorry to have ruffled your feathers. It won;t happen again and thanks for the warm reception!!!

AAhhh so instead of reading for yourself your going to read the minds of people who did read?

here is the link to the sticky that I quoted in my first post.

here is the link to the rules
http://www.eqemulator.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=96

where it states

10) Do not ask for new copies of the emulator or their release dates, they will not be given for any reason.

Sorry for enforcing the rules that you decided not to follow I didnt know you were above them

Gotcha. Won't happen again. I must say that I did get my Linux server up and running without a single post and now I'm glad I didn't ask. I respect the rules and humbly apologize.

The OP just wants to know where he can find the latest version, which is far from unreasonable, and it can't be grouped into the same category as someone looking where to download any version. Especially since unofficial snapshots are only referred to offhand, and you never see a download location unless you're in IRC.

There most recent version I know of is Shawn319's package, which is current as of January 12, 2004.

It is located at http://shawn319.eqemulator.net/cvs

You know, this is getting insane...

We dont even try to help people anymore, we take the time to insult, ban, tell them NOT to, but dont take the time anymore to actually try to be helpful...
Everything seems to be a bannable offense now... I'm really getting tired of this 'aura of fear and belittlement' that haunts these forums...

I have to throw my 2 cents in and say this is starting to get out of hand from my perspective....

IceMan, developer code is available via the CVS system on sourceforge, you can obtain it there.

Im confused ,when has it became bannable to ask how to obtain DR code, we've always encourged people to download CVS code as it puts the DR code in the hands of people who can potentially report bugs and/or make code fixes/improvements. That was the whole point in me setting up the CVS update process to make new code available....

Before we bitch about ANYONE else, we need to FIX the portal page to include a total and complete FAQ , good ,thorough and UP2DATE documentation, and enough information that we don't expect someone completely new to EQEMU to have to read for 6 hours to get a general state of the union.... Im looking through the FAQ section, and I'm not seeing a 'HOW TO' on getting development code via CVS.. And even if there was one, the format is so confusing off that page that I doubt many people would find it..

Frankly, the layout of the main page sucks, theres not enough consolidated information , (a what is EQEMU page) , and its all haphazard, I dont blame someone coming in for the 1st time to ask some questions..

As far as Wiz's comment goes regarding asking questions about CVS, he like all of us has the option of not replaying to a post. I don't recall him being elected to set the banning policies at random, especially since a master RULES OF THE ROAD list is not jumping out at me anywhere... If it requires 10 hours of digging to find some obscure rule that a DEV came up with because he got annoyed, its really pointless to punish someone for not seeing it...

Let me make a command level decision and OVERULE asking questions regarding Developer code.. It is not bannable, nor should it ever have been. That does not mean PM the developers , harass them in IRC, etc, but someone should at least be free to ask for the process, as opposed to hoping to god they'll get a search response and then fearing to ask a question because of this oppressive atmosphere.....

OMG I HOPE HAVING AN OPINION ISNT A BANNABLE OFFENSE!

/applaud Trumpcard :)

Totally agree. Yes it can be a hassle having to tell people over and over again where to look etc, but if ya want to be a support helper then help. Don't ask this, don't ask that or be banned is starting to get a little lame imho.

Supporthelpers are sopose to help enforce the rules, I have gotten yelled at a couple times for NOT doing so, Now this dosnt mean We, or let me speek for myself, I agree with all of the rules, now that this rule is taken out I will point people to where they need to go.

Thank you Image, the boards needed that. Two sayings come to mind about the boards:

"The beatings will continue until morale improves"

Reminds me of the aura of bannage that has hovered over the boards lately.

"If the student has failed to learn; the teacher has failed to teach"

If the same problem occurs over and over, possibly look inwards and not out to the student...

Dont' get me wrong, I'm not defending everyone who posts questions...some of them are plain pubescent and probably deserve flaming.

I'd love to know if the SF CVS was up to date, i haven't seen any information on it and obviously couldn't ask. I'd love to know the top 3 things the project needs help with. I'd even like to ask where you guys are focusing your efforts (code wise) and what projects are planned for the next couple of months.

Matt, im not blaming you regarding it, you're doing extactly what you were asked to do, and you've done it fairly in my eyes. The problem is not in the support moderators, its in the lack of cohesion in the eqemu project....

I'm going to get with the other developers and admins and work out some changes. A more fair policy regarding how to regulate and admin the boards, the biggest being more tolerance.

The most important in my mind is 1st updating our portal page to include a new RULES guide, then make sure all our information is up to date and complete...

Matt, im not blaming you regarding it,

:( aawww come on everyone says everything is my fault dot break the trend

A solid set of rules would be nice for everyone, people get banned just cause a lot, and others who definetly should get banned dont. I hate needing to be a d*ck but it has been the only way to insure people dont get banned. How many times has someone sayd the made sure they did somthing or didnt do somthing so I wouldnt jump on them? and if they wouldnt have had those thoughts they probable would have gotten banned.

EQEmu is not and hasnt been very user friendly since I have been here. I have been working on a noobie guide, with error #'s and links to the proper help for the error ect, I may work on it a bit more and finish it up in the next couple days if you are interested in useing it.

Thank you trump for finaly putting a foot down to the spiraling hostile atmosphere I for one have been shying from the project because I got sick of reading Flam after Flame after ban and so on.

Point is the Eqemu Forums went from a fun intrest to a cold unfriendly environment almost overnight why I can't speculate.

I realise some repetitive questions get monotonous its just the nature of the bear we all just need to expect new people to know nothing at all as we all did at one time. To me when I was new the forums looked like complete intelegable jargin no amount of reading in the world helped I just had to play with the files for weeks to get a handle on it.

now not to say everyone gets a dodge a ban free card as some people really have it coming with there attitude. That is a judgment call on the admins or suport helpers of course

The fact that the guides and faq are being looked at for overhaul really brightens my spirits and has rekindled my eqemu intrest a bit : ) I am even having troble staying curent. Having the links all updated would make it a ton easier as Forum spelunking for hours with a search engine whos output still baffles me can be very frustrating.

Lets hope the environment gets a bit friendlier :D

P.S. Glad to see you all again ive taken some time away from the sight for the past cuple of weeks this is good to come back to.
