I found this kind of interesting. http://www.undergroundguides.com/everquestemu.htm . An excerpt from the guide:
"Choose a server and play! These are all player-run servers, some of them are for testing and screwing around on (make your character level 100, summon the best equipment, change your name/race at will, become a GM, etc.), and others are for a true game

If anyone were stupid enough to buy that I would die from laughing...It even says "A synopsis of the current free Everquest Emulators, EQEmu and Ethernalquest" and they could look on this site and get all the help for FREE that they wanted

This has been discussed before around a year back, was the same site offering it I think. Can't remember what happened, I'm sure one of the Devs will get it sorted.

The link on that page points to eqemu.net. As far as I know, that page has nothing to do with this project.

I dont think the devs will do anything about this, because it is legit. To explain, I mean they are NOT saying "you can only get it here blah blah blah", they are in fact telling you FREE, but charging you the price to find the information. Kinda like those a-holes that say $100 fee for us to give you the name (not the job, just the name) of the employer that you might have otherwise found yourself in the newspaper, had you not been too lazy to look.... So I think that the attitude Devs will take is, "Hey if they are too damn dumb not to see the key words, then let them pay for it."
On the other hand, it MAY draw undo attention to EqEmu. Some of the people at SOE MIGHT not be bright enough to see the free thing, and assume we are selling THEIR product (which becomes illegal), and start something WE might regret..

www.eqemulator.net was www.eqemu.net before Hogie left. :P Guess they don't keep it updated like they say they do ^_^

What actually happened to Hogie? Did he and the devs have a disagreement about something? He chose to leave, didn't he?

It was a stupid soap opera, one that should have never started in the 1st place.. In my opinion, Hogie was in the right concerning the whole thing, and he stepped away from the project rather than to stick around somewhere he didnt feel his contributions were appreciated.
Thats the way it all appeared to me at least....
