I have posted this problem on other hardware and software forums, without reply, and vdo card manufacturers say that they wont help as what my problem is, is NOT supported anyhow (resolutions of that size in digital).... :( so here goes, hope someone here will know what to do :
Here is the problem starting with system spec (relevant to the issue):
Geforce FX 5900 Ultra 256 MB RAM
AMD Athlon 3200+
1 GB 400 MHZ RAM
Samsun SyncMaster 240T 24' widescreen LCD monitor
Windows XP Professional SP1

I am having a problem with the digital resolution on this. To explain better, maybe I should start from the beginning.

When I first bought this rig, I installed everything and all was well, until I tried to use the resolution 1920 x 1200 on digital (which is native for the monitor, anything below doesnt look very good), as analog at that resolution works just fine and is totally supported by the drivers. I was able to set the analog res. to that, and set it up as clone, then when I switch monotor from analog to digital, I was able to do anything in that resolution. BUT, if I unplug the analog connector then rebooted, it would only go up to 1280 x 1024 max for digital... So as long as I had both analog and digital cables plugged in and had it set to clone and analog as the main display, I could view this resolution in either digital or analog.

Now, here is the kicker that lets me know that the drivers ARE capable of it, just locked out, I was trying to play a game that required me to download and use a set of older drivers from Nvidia to run correctly, and I COULD set it to that resolution without having the analog enabled at all... Also, on my older system (which I was using this monitor before I bought the new rig), has a Geforce TI 4200 128 mb ram, and even the newest drivers would allow me to do this resolution. But, when reinstalling my OS and that particular driver, it no longer worked...

I am seeing in the properties window that the drivers RECOGNIZE my monitor, and also recognize that it IS capable of 1920 x 1200 in digital, it just will not allow me to set it at that without the analog being the main display... Does anyone know of any software or a way to unlock this, or to even trick it so I can use this resolution without having to have the analog cable plugged into the vdo card? I am wanting to use that for another computer, to share the monitor, if you will. TIA.............

P.S. The "List all modes" does not show that resolution in digital either

To me it sounds like a monitor driver issue. I had a problem similar to this before and had to scour to find the correct monitor driver so mine would work. Have you tried other drivers for the display?

Yeah, but I dont think it is monitor drivers, I think it is Vdo drivers... the readme.txt says that it doesnt support over 1280 x 1024 in digital (though I know it is capable). I think that it is JUST locked....

Perhaps it's locked due to instability or adverse effects from running in that resolution though? Hehe... I dunno. Like I have this 19" monitor that WILL run in 1900x1200 res, but it's not supported and it started doing some weird stuff when I ran it in that res. Man...it was sweet while it lasted though

/em looks out over the vast 1900x1200 expanse of DESKTOP...

LOL>...

Actually you were right.. It WAS the monitor driver... Here I am doleling out tech help and cant even do something as simple as install the proper driver for my monitor. No, there arent any adverse effects at that resolution just pure widescreen huge resolution (read tons of desktop realastate) hehe... What I didnt realize that was the problem, is Samsung has TWO drivers for this monitor, not ONE driver that will handle both analog and digital.. but one for both... And I didnt have the digital driver installed.. It is semi-confusing, as you have to BE in digital mode to install THAT driver, and vise versa on analog... sheesh you would think that they could at least put that in the manual... Thanks for the help.... <slinks his dumass away with tail between legs> (Wait, I have a tail?)

Actually, I'm not a big Iksar hater...maybe just necros and monks. Wait...are iksar ever anything else? ;)

Okay seriously Iksar are okay...it's those friggin gnomes that I'd like to squish.

My buddies and I are going to destroy Ak'Anon when I get my server up. We used to all play in this anti-gnome guild when we were on Live. Hehe...Oh yeah...that'll be fun...

Nah...it's much more fun when you can put the boots to them filthy gnomes yourself. :-D

But maybe the Sleeper loose in GFay would be funny....

Speaking of moving...I need to get your avatar some oil. Seems you're a bit rusted up. I know you're trying to get your groove on like Strong Bad, but it appears your armor is stopping you...

And yes...I'm looking forward to setting up GM events where crazy stuff like Naggy / Vox stomping Freeport / Halas into bits. :)

Maybe Mayong Mistmoore...are his stats in the database by any chance?

Maybe Mayong Mistmoore...are his stats in the database by any chance? That I am not too sure of, you should be able to check into that, as you dont need to set up a server to read the database.. just go to world building forum and find the newest DB .....

I know you're trying to get your groove on like Strong Bad, but it appears your armor is stopping you... Yeah, if my avatar had the gear yours had on, mine would be bustin' a move like yours is... :)

Speaking of avatars...where is that knight from? He looks very familiar to me, but I can't quite place where I've seen him before...
