For those who don't know how to compile I have uploaded the latest binaries on my website.

First off : THERE IS NO SUPPORT
if the boards start flooding with questions about these binaries I will remove them

I have posted these for people who want to fool around with them and see if they can get it to work. There are still bugs but I have found a way around them and posted them on the website.

Go here to get them:
www.rama.demon.co.uk/5.5DR1VSNETBinaries.zip (Compiled by Tertiary)
http://68.33.10.32/ (Compiled by Nilar, thanks to ripmage for hosting)

Bugs

World.exe crashing - World seems to crash when certain character class/race combos are created. Dark elf wizard and warrior works though so once you in game you can change yourself with #permarace and #permaclass. If world.exe is crashing, use a database tool such EQAdmin and delete the characters in your database and try again

Loginserver.ini- In loginserver.ini add [ChatChannelServer] to the end and put an extra blank line after it. (like hitting enter to create a new paragraph) If you dont do this your server wont appear on the server select.

Thanks for the binaries Nilar. Dark elf warrior works fine as well as the wizard. I'm going to do some testing tonight and find out all the race/class combos that DO work.

I'd appreciate some feedback as to whether these are more or less stable than the original ones posted. I've only tested them briefly myself.

hmm I see thats something in the howto, but I used the other howto that nilar posted me on my thread. I wonder if I can somehow change this error any help would be appreciated. (I couldt use the other howto becuase of errors in editing my system evrioment variables)

Not enough info provided Sarkamen. When and where are you getting this error?

do I need to open it with bloodshed?

Bloodshed is used to compile. These are already compiled you shouldnt have to use Bloodshed.

Also Tertiary the binaries seem to work fine for me. All commands working and havn't ran into many major errors yet.

yeah I am sorry it wasnt to hard to fix....but what I did doesnt make sense, the first binaries I had same prob as tert so I am testing his now.

I am sorry this is the first time I have got into the game, and I get either disconnected form the zone server or it says that zone is not available. Is there something I need to do? the zone servers say sleeping when I go in game is that right?

Everything seems to work fine but I have found that with your binaries the #npcspawn create and #npcspawn add does not work and for some reason NPCs arnt getting added to the database.

Thanks for the feedback Nilar. I have never tried these commands under a Dev-C++ compile so there maybe some issues there I need to look at. Perhaps you should remove the link to my binaries for now. I will look into it.

Tertiary, I had some issues with Zone.exe crashing when I started it, was trying to read from an invalid memory address, so I am using Nilar's Zone.exe with your World.exe and EmuSharemem.dell files and it seems to be ok now. Only one issue, when I close world.exe it causes an invalid memory address error and sometimes if someone does something with a zone in game Zone.exe crashes, I will get you the error info asap, just wanted to mention this here. Thanks alot for providing these bins!

you know that sounds like what I my problem is, mine has the memory problem too... hmm but I dont boot my zone.exe I run the boot5zones.bat which is the same in essence but hmm I also have that odd text overlay

Jezebell

ok, post this "odd text overlay" on the other topic you started and we will get it figured out :)

I have seen the same problem if you shutdown world by clicking on the X in the top right. If you CTRL-C or use the wordshutdown command all seems OK, so I don't think that is a big problem.

For your other problem(s), if you can tell me how to reproduce them I will try and fix them if they are specific to my Dev-C++ binaries. (info on what DB you are using may also be helpful).

I assume Nilar's VS NET 2003 compile doesn't have these bugs ? (or does it have others if you are using a hybrid of both) ?

Hmm I don't think so. I havn't seen it happen yet but when I ran your binaries I got the error also when closing world and zoneservers. I just assumed it was because the zoneservers lost their connection to the world or something to do with that. It didn't cause any major problems so it didn't seem like a big deal to me :D

Everything seems to work fine but I have found that with your binaries the #npcspawn create and #npcspawn add does not work and for some reason NPCs arnt getting added to the database.

I have found the reason for this. It is a flaw in the Dev-C++ port that I did (specifically the portable vsnprintf function that I was using does not support floating point parameters, so any call to the MakeAnyLengthString function with %f parameters would fail.

This includes #npcspawn add and probably others. I have taken down the links to my Dev-C++ port of the 5.5DR1 source and binaries until (if) I have a fix. If you already downloaded my binaries, download Nilar's instead (and thanks again to Nilar for finding this problem).

I am using your World.exe and shamemem and Nilar's Zone.exe because your Zone.exe was crashing when started on my system, everything seems ok and #npcspawn create works fine, only thing is #npcspawn delete crashes the zone. Prolly related to the issue you just mentioned :)

The #npcspawn command is processed by the zone.exe (zone/npc.cpp in the source) which is why #npcspawn add works if you are using Nilar's zone.exe.

I think the #npcspawn delete crash may be a long standing issue:

I've found that #npcspawn delete only seems to work on mobs that have already been sourced into a database. It usually crashes a zone if its used too many times or if you use it on a mob that you #spawned.

I have taken down the links to my Dev-C++ port of the 5.5DR1 source and binaries until (if) I have a fix.

If you want to you can still keep your binaries up. I still have a problem in my world.exe with character creation. I have our binaries mixed like jezebell so that character creation works and the #npcspawn commands work. Just a suggestion.

What class/race combinations do you have problems with at character creation with your world.exe? I have VS NET 2003 Professional, so I will recompile with that and post the binaries if they do not have the same problem.

I havn't tested them all but I've noticed most wood elf/combos crash world.exe. There is a fix here (http://www.eqemulator.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13170) that tofuwarrior posted but when I tried correcting this I kept getting an error when compiling

OK, here is a link to a set I compiled with VS NET 2003.

www.rama.demon.co.uk/5.5DR1VSNETBinaries.zip

I havn't tested them all but I've noticed most wood elf/combos crash world.exe

I created a wood-elf ranger and wood-elf warrior with no problems with these binaries (without TofuWarrior's fix).

My list of areas I COULD start a character in with Nilar's world.exe are:

Halas
Erudin
Neriak
Kaladim
Gukta

Oggok, Freeport (east), Surefall Glade, Kelethin, Felwithe, Ak'Anon, Rivervale, and Cabilis ALL crash upon creation.

I didn't try every race/class combo, but it appears to be zone related as far as I can tell. I'll keep trying if these new ones from Tertiary don't fix it.

Btw, i get a 1017 error when trying to connect, guess its normal since i installed a fresh EQ and have to do an update :/ I'm correct and i will have to wait a new EQemu version/fix or i'm wrong and i have missed something in the configuration of EQEmu (Dont say me im wrong, i start to have a ...bip... headache :p

Nice tertiary, I added it to the links on the first post. Although I cant figure out why my world.exe is having problems when compiling. I always use this (http://www.eqemulator.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9648) setup when compiling. Maybe its outdated?

Tertiary

Although I cant figure out why my world.exe is having problems when compiling.

Are you getting errors when compiling world ?

Those binaries were built in 'Release' configuration while yours seem to have been built as 'Debug', though I don't think that should make any difference.

(Menu option Build/Configuration Manager then select Release in the Active Solution Configuration drop down box in VS NET 2003).

nilar
03-12-2004, 10:05 AM
Nope no errors.

And I'll try switching it to Release, that could be a problem.

hi guys,

been keeping an eye on the progress and performed a bit of testing on the great anount of work everyone has been doing. all I can say is I'm impressed!

I found a few things that others have picked up on - writing spells to the spell book, using containers - requires the user to log out and back in before they can do much else.

Something else is zoning while on a horse - crashes the zone the player is moving to and continues crashing when they try to log that char back in. Tried it with a couple of horses and same result.

I am enjoying learning the finer details of EQEMu from exploring what you guys (as a community) have done with the binaries and the database. And now I am off to checkout how to get the quest system to work.

Again, impressive work guys, and a big THANK YOU to all those who have spent their time slaving away at it.
