Brood

Okay, just want to let you know before I get on to the actual topic, that I don't know much about setting up a server, but I did get it to pretty much work, except for one thing: I can't join it. I'll get to that further inside. Also I DON'T have VS.Net 2003, and what I basically ask for is a work around to my problem, or another database.
Okay, the real problem is that I can find two databases here, the MW055_alpha_02 and the db which is included at first (a complete blank one). Now, problem with MW055_alpha_02 is that I've patched, and can't run it because it is 0.5.5, but shows as 0.5.2 or something weird, but fine with that, that's my problem. The real problem occurs with db.sql. I know it's supposed to be a "blank" database, and that's cool, problem is that the Item Editor only works if there's at least ONE item in the database, and there is none. Thus, if I'm not totally lost in the ways of the item editor, there's no way to make items. This is where the VS.Net 2003 thing comes in. I can't edit the sql file, because it changes to a document, so I can't add a single item myself (should be fairly simple with just a line to input, but no). Which makes me stuck.
I've searched and searched for another, older database here on the site, because I only want to play myself (thus any database that just actually works would be fine, BUT it had to have at least one item), but my efforts have been fruitless, both due to the fact that my internet is screwed up (basically can't access it; I'm running explorer from the kazaa p2p software, which works fine, except I can't open other windows), and due to the fact I don't really know what I'm looking for in actuality. So basically to sum it up my problem(s) are/is:
- I need a database which doesn't require EQ to not be up to date.
- This database needs to include at least ONE item, other stuff doesn't matter at all.
and please, if I'm being dense, just explain it to me. I've tried search and everything else to solve my problem and I just can't find anything that gives what I'm looking for. And second, if you supply links, please give the exact address to it, because since I can't open windows, I have to write the address by hand.
Edit: I've found what MIGHT appear to be the problem: a small 9k file to be sourced into the MW055_alpha_02 database, called Jan24_update, which I didn't do, because I couldn't get the file. Got it now though, and trying to source it into it, but don't exactly know what to do :oops: I've tried using mysql to:
use 'database'; (without the ' of course)
-> source Jan24_update;
But this doesn't seem to be the right way. At least it doesn't know what to do, because it says it can't read the file. I've put one in the bin directory and called it update, and I've of course calibrated that by saying source update;, but that doesn't work either. So I'm kinda stuck against a wall again :cry:
Edit2: Heh, I'm giving myself all the answers to this one, but here goes: I've found out how to source it. Seems I needed to add .sql to the end, so I'm sourcing the small jan24 update into mw055_alpha_02, and hoping it will work after that.
Edit3: Didn't work, of course. Still getting the same error, I can get the server up and running (locked) nicely, but when I tries to join it, it gives the 1017 error (patcher connectivity lost or whatever it is). Does exactly the same thing with db.sql. And yes, I've patched recently. Can that be it?
