i new there was more than 10 - but it makes sense why some zones have lag others dont, if you think about it.

All the servers total 1500, which I guess is about 27 each. Check this site out for this as well as other neat tid bits. http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/040315/lam066_1.html

This is my favorite fact -

"There are more than 40,000 unique items for players to discover, create or buy within the game. More than 3,000 of these items have never been discovered by players."

My guesses as to why...<ahem>

1. The quest that you get such an item from is broken
2. The recipe that creates such and item is broken
3. To create such an item, you need a rare drop from a rare spawn and must use that drop in some tradeskill (which never is trivial...and the recipe is broken) and then after you make that item, you have to turn it in to an npc who's dialogue is broken and after they fix his dialogue, some other part of the quest will be broken.

Yep. I'm pretty sure that all 3000 items fall into those categories...

Okay I'll be optimistic...then you get everything to work and get your item! YAY! (then they nerf the fucker...)

I just patched to live and can login to the EQEmu Test Server that is running the latest code, so it doesnt look like they changed anything that would effect logins or zoning into the zone.

Well thats less than i thought. I would have guessed they had a computer running for every zone on every server =D.

Which comes to my next question -- What *kind* of computers are running the zones? =P

*nix, i bet.

Else they would actually have one comp per server, per zone, per player ... err, no, forget about the last one :)

Yeah, my guess is they're running some sort of hardcore mainframe systems all clustered together. They's kinda have to to get the performance they'd need for 100+ people per computer!

though I would NOT be surprised to see them using Apple Mainframes... I can see it now.....

While you can login with existing characters, I think there is a problem with creating new ones:

Their servers run on Windows NT 4

Not clustered, each computer runs a few heavy zones but majority empty zones
