I don't know if this has been done, but since I've played on here for a while and haven't seen any posts/servers in server list like this, I'm assuming it hasn't been attempted(or attempted successfully).

Since the only PvP server with any success(in my opinion) is Guildwars(and they are having their problems as well), I'm thinking the major problem is once people get high level on any Emu pvp server, any newcomers are basically screwed.....and with implemented gear from expansions, balance is totally whack.....

Ok maybe I'm just rambling on because I would love to see a STABLE emu server do this.....but I'm thinking a 'discord' type server(if any of you played discord when it came up on live, I'm sure you had a lot of fun unless you suck and just kept dying like all the bluebies on live did when they went there) would work and maybe even aqcuire a large database of players.....only don't do it the same way live did it.

If you're wondering by now what I'm talking about when I say 'discord server', it was a server live came out with a while back(i think in december 2003 or jan. 2004). It was pvp....like sullon zek, lvl 65's could kill 6's, only it was old world, and when you die, you spawn back in your newb city, you're level 1 again, no items, no spells, nothing. It only stayed up a month, and was a contest server. I thought the idea was intriguing, and many people wanted it to stay up for more than a month.

It was chaotic...and fun. Really hardcore.

My idea of how to run a server in this way would be to do the following:

1. Keep all the content like live, don't mess with it. It's more fun like this. Since mostly people are only focused on staying alive and PvPing. Although enhancing some drops on lower levels mobs would be good since melee are kind of gimped.

2. Arrange it so you get points for killing people, but the only way you can spend these points is on "banking"(like backing up a char, not literally banking it like in the game). As in, make level 10 a banking level that you must use, oh say, 200 points to type #banklvl so that when you die from then on out, you spawn with nothing but you're level 10(with the skill levels you had at 10 when you banked, also. Could do this for level 20 also, but no more, otherwise it would turn unbalanced). Could also do this with spells you have, so you dont have to go farm cash to get your spells again. Make it so it's like 100 points to bank your spells so even if you spawn level 1, you're set on spells up until what spells you have. Then make it so you can do that with equipment, about 200 points for that...etc...and make it so this banking feature only works once, so when you die and the banking feature goes into play, you have to pvp some more to use it again.

3. Give points for killing anyone within 20 levels of you, since there will be a lot of level 6's out and about

4. Keep it old world, and take out unnecessary zones(you obviously aren't going to have people going to planes, CT, solb, you get it.). Take out odus and faydwer too, and even think about making the world even smaller(like cutting out the karanas, qeynos, halas, etc., to keep everything around rivervale, neriak, and freeport, that way you dont have to implement gay ass nexus ports to allow everyone easy access to pvp.) Then make it so no one can /anon or /roleplay.

5. This one is really important: Wipe the server every month. Everyone reverts back to level 1. This keeps the server friendly for new people, and gives everyone a chance to kill those damn high levels that smoked them 2 weeks ago instead of one group of 30s porting around and owning the whole server.

6. Award the top 5 pkers each month who gained the most points with them keeping all of their spells and gear for the next month. They'll be level 1 but with all of their gear and spells from the past month. This gives everyone something to work towards. Give them a title, too(Like Soandso the Slayer/butcherer/ravager/you get the idea). This also gives the losers something to work towards: Killing the winners as soon as they ding 6 so they lose that gear they worked so hard to keep!

7. Make everything no drop so no transferring back to your level 1 right before you die would happen =) And PvE would be insured since no one could just buy gear if they wanted it, they'll have to level to get any slightly decent gear.

8. Implement Guilds, but make the max number of players in a guild like 10, or even lower, so that no guild could really get unkillable(a guild of high 20s on this server could own if they never PvE'd(therefore no dying).....so different things would have to be done.) And since we all know people are gonna group up to kill, might as well encourage this aspect so the stragglers dont get raped.

The good aspects of this server would be: resists wouldn't be butchered all to hell, since no one would really have resists anyways.

Every month, everyone would have a chance to be in the top 5, so nobody would "own" the server.....

This server idea could be played with in many ways, and I think it would be pretty cool if it was done on a green(stable) server, and done correctly. Heck, I'd like to see anyone try it =)
