Thats why your are recommended by many people to -=seperate=- your EverQuest Live folder with your EverQuest Emulator folder. I hope this patch isn't the one we have been dreading for ages. Please, no. I was hoping EqEmulator would make it to atleast version 1.0.0.

Theres never going to be a patch like you've been dreading. No matter what it will be possible to fix it so that the Emu can work with the latest patch. It may take a lot mroe time, but it'll happen as long as people still packetcollect and one dev works on it. And its not really necessary to have this list because simply replacing all the dll, exe, and uifiles will always work to unpatch. And it could be more helpful to have some of the newer zone files and model files even with an older client because that could fix some bugs or make things look better. Like when GoD came out you could patch to get all the new zones then replace your exes and dlls and go play in them in the Emu.

A reinstall will not help, it will let you log into the login server, but you won't be able to play on any of the servers because those files are far to old to be compatible with any of the servers.

why doesnt anyone releases the few files.
I can upload them in germany , there are other laws.
Coz of a few files from a game you are not guilty!

Its not that they aren't willing to release them its the fact it is against the board rules to post links to or about warez.

a few files arent warez , they do less than 50 percent of the game

a few files arent warez , they do less than 50 percent of the game

They aren't? thats odd.. ok lemme put it in a different prespective for you.

You are a stay at home programmer for a living (You can't get a job with your dream company (Sony Online Entertainment) becuase you either suck, or you are just to lazy to go out and ask them), but you can program nonetheless. Now, lets say one day you finally get your amazing new anti virus program to complie, error free, you test it and it can clean ANY virus that you put into it. Now, this is a big thing, i mean it can clean ANYTHING, no one will ever lose a file to a virus again as far as you are concerned. So now you don't need that SoE to employ you, hell you can sell this program to the average consumer for $100 and every company will buy a lisence for it for $2500 to keep all their networked computers safe. And here is the best part, its only a single file!, its so small, so simple, but it works perfectly!, now here is the catch in all this, you want to make big bucks off this, so you go out and you market it, you pay for banners to be post on websites, that way everyone will know of your new product. and again its only ONE file! no extra virus databases, becuase all the info you need is coded into the program. So you sell a few hundred copies, you make some cash, but well you don't want to stop at a few grand, hell no you want more money! however.. some little group of people decied well if we all pitch in 10 bucks we can get one copy and put it on all the other machines so really we are getting the full program for a 10th of the price. just make sure we don't register it! they will never know. Or some guy buys your product, he is a very talanted programer, and he designs a crack for your program so it never has to be registerd, and he then hosts your single file and his crack on his warez site so people will come download them, and click all his banners and he can inturn make money. so now not only are you losing money, but he is now making money off your product (by proxy) . And all of this from your amazing ONE file program. now tell me if this guy ends up spreading your program to 15000 people in the U.S. alone, and you don't make a dime off of it, it would kind of upset you no? i mean you worked your ass off making this program and now 15000 people have it for free! so is one or two files warez? ofcourse it is. the eqgame.exe is the main program that everquest runs off of, no you can't play without the zone files, but that doesn't matter, you still have their main product. so think about this when your searching for those files on the internet, although SOE is a money whore, they still pay people to make that product and they want somthing in return.

And Zlen i am not sure what you mean what code are you talking about?

Oh, that was code, that was just a list of files that were released with the may 18th patch, alot of people were wondering what files they needed to find and "Un-patch" as it were, thats only a list of the files that were changed. the only thing you can do with that list is read it =(, after that it isn't much use unless you have the files to fix it with.

My EQ folder is about 2.22gb. All the non-legends files here are about 5mb zipped. A lot less than 50%, but a few files are still warez. Getting files from a program(or the whole thing) which you have to pay for, for free, == warez.

Backing up your eq directory or keeping another one for emulator sepearate from live is a noble gesture.

However,

I have a backup of mine since May 1st, since I havent patched since then.

Patching today (29th) makes it so I cannot play with minilogin + DR3.

I even tried to copy just the eqmain.dll from my backup back into the eq directory so I can use minilogin. But of course, this version of eqmain.dll is from prior to the 12th patch and therefore causes "you may need to patch" messages.

So I'm stuck with the 5/1 patch backup and my 5/29 new one, neither of which compatible with DR3 and minilogin.

Therefore, simply stating "back up your eq" directory is a sham.

Instead it should be "Monitor forums daily for news on new binaries, patch your client, update your binaries same day, then back it up again"

Another idea might be to release a new minilogin.exe that supports the newest live patch. But of course, local logins are not supported. To run a server "officially" means to use the projects login servers. Which isnt so bad I guess ;)

Getting files from a program(or the whole thing) which you have to pay for, for free, == warez.

Ok I have one small issue with the above, which was also elaborated on in a previous users theoretical post. And it is this... I bought the disks for every single update of EQ barring GoD and the one after that. I bought a subscription to EQ live for several years. Many of you (I assume) have also bought the disks and maybe even a subscription. Since we have all helped pay Sony's EQ programmers salaries, how is trading a file (like say eqmain.dll) warez, in this particular case?

Yeah, I would understand if all of us or even the majority where getting all the EQ files for free (without ever purchasing any of the disks) but this is not the case. Heck, EQ Live "gives" these files to those with the program for "free" anyway (with the expectation that we are paying their subscription fees, of course).

The fact that not every one of us keeps an copy of every patched version of EQ is the real issue here, it seems to me.

Heck, I've only got 40gigs of HD space and that's taken up by lots of other programs and files I use too. Some people have far less. And we can't all afford a new 80gig or higher drive (I wish). So, keeping one becomes the challange. With one EQ Live folder and one EQ pre-patched for eqemu folder, you still have the challenge of keeping on top of things.

Let's say the eqemu copy is set up fine, to say 5.7 dr3. Everything's working fine then over half of your players (for you run a server) patch their only working copy of the game. So now, you have to get 5.7 dr4 working and you don't have all the files you need because Sony has gone and changed their login process (in an overt attempt to lock out unofficial servers just like yours).

Now what do you? If you ask for an old copy of the file you need on the forum, you get flamed for asking for warez, which really isn't, since it was never free in the first place (unless you downloaded all of your EQ files from the net to begin with). You can't download it from Sony because they want you to pay for their servers and won't give it to you. You can't get it off your disks because those files are too old.

So basically, you have to hope a kind soul takes pity on you and emails your or pms you and gives you a copy of the file you are looking for. Even though it's warez...

(Ok, sorry this turned into such a rant. This just touched a nerve for me because by the definition of warez you all gave the EQ files clearly are not by your own definition. If I'd gotten the files for free in the first place, perhaps I'd be able to see things differntly but after putting so much money into Sony's pockets, I just can't see trading such files to be as big of a deal as you all seem to think it is. And if discussing such things is a bannable offense on a forum that runs and builds a semi-legal program, ;-) (that I love btw), I just don't know what to think except perhaps that it is beyond ironic.)

And yes, I've read this:
1) No Warez (No Discussion or Providing of Warez). Warez is any file that has been obtained without purchase from the company or a "legit" vendor, or without the sole permission of the owner, or company is considered illegal and is not permitted on these forums. This also includes all EQ files and also means do NOT ask, give out, host, or in some other way promote the giving out of these files. This includes but is not limited to: The EQ Patcher, eqgame.exe, eqmain.dll, spdat.eff, cshome.s3d, cshome_chr.s3d, or ANY file downloaded with the Verant EQ Patcher (aka Everquest.exe) with the exeption of files that can be re-created within 10 seconds by hand (this means eqhost.txt is okay).

I just disagree with the definition "any file that has been obtained without purchase from the company or a "legit" vendor" to include EQ files themselves, since many of us have an EQ Live subscription along with running eqemu.

Ok, I think I've beat this into the ground enough. I'm going off to bed now.
