**** DO NOT PATCH ****

The May 18th 2004 breaks EQEMu good, EQLive changed the login interface, along with how login server works.. so patching will result in umm.. some nice breaking ;)

Have fun, if you have patched, umm hahahah your screwed :>

LOL

You know, though, that someone will eventually reply to this thread asking the questions:

"Why can't I log in anymore?"
"How do I unpatch?"
"Can someone send me the pre-patch files?"

And, of course, the ever-famous:

"When will it be fixed?"

I'm betting with the serverity of this patch we'll get at least 90 posts asking how to fix it or when it will be fixed which is alot more than the already impressive numbers we get most times.

well im happy i can play both :D lol its going to be hard to fix i think cause they even changed the eqhost to [LoginServer]
Host=eqlplogin1.everquest.com:15900 well to me it looks like now it runs off a site for login so maybe  if u could make it so it runs the login from this site it might work dont no lol

This is like the FIRST time i actually caught it before patching but now i'm kinda stuck. I know it's kinda newbish and i'm not asking for files or anything, but I've looked all over and anyone think they can point me in the direction to where I can get on without patching? I've tried everything and think I'm out of ideas.... Thanks

A Patchme Hint (http://www.eqemulator.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14920&highlight=patchme)

Just change your EQ shortcut from:

C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest\everquest.exe

To:

C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest\eqgame.exe patchme

Also note that your EQ files may be in another location (ex: C:\Program Files\Everquest Trilogy\)... ergo, your particular mileage may vary. :)

Cant you just Reload EverQuest ? to fix it, if you patched

Sadly no, in order to fix this problem you would need a copy of all the pre May 18th files, the ones from may 12th would be your best bet, i posted a list of the files patched Here (http://www.eqemulator.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14979). This is from may 18th.

This is only a list, this post will not show you where to get the files, thats your own thing to deal with, so don't PM me or post asking where you can get them, learn to backup your files. If i get another PM asking if i have the backup files i will open a can of Jew on your ass.

If you have the pre may 18th files, the easiest fix is to.
1) copy all the files you have from the may 12th patch into your eq folder, overwritting all the may 18th files.
2) try removing any items in the list above that say "not found on local machine" These were files that were not present on the computer before the may 18th patch.
3)Change your eqhost back to the eqeqmu login servers, using the OLD format.

Now my guess is if you didn't backup your files in the first place, or didn't make a copy of your eq folder, as is suggested when playing the emulator, then you won't understand how to restore older version of files to fix your login problems. and thus i say this

Disclaimer ~ You Mess up your files trying to restore to the may 12th versions, don't tell me its my fault, i am not the one who patched over my only eq directory.

Have fun and good luck.

I simply did a system restore and fixed the problem if this is a viable option for you I'd suggest you do the same.

Swampdog

Or you could just run a separate install specifically for eqemu as suggested in the docs and not patch that install until instructed to do so...

gandar
05-20-2004, 03:37 AM
Swampdog, following the instructions and having a separate directory for the EQEmu would be too simple.

Read the hundreds of posts of : "Oops, I patched, now what?" and "Oops, I patched, when will you fix it?" etc...

I am NOT saying people are stupid, but I am saying that for whatever reason, the majority do not listen to instructions.

RTFM and all that...

I think in most of the tutorials about "How to play on EQEmu" backing up the EQ directory and changing the shortcut (or using EQW) is like step 1 and 2. :P

Ah, well, these constantly recurring issues are what give us something to respond to anyway...

With the exception of DirectX you dont really need to 'install' just copy the files from a working directory to another and you have EQ working.

I cant remember the amount of times I reformatted a box and just copied EQ files over to get a box up and running (eq wise) quick and easy.......

Comeon people its not that hard

Alright, I believe that I have the patch right before the may 12th one, is there any way I could get just the may 12th updates without the new patch that breaks emu? If anyone knows, would love if there's a way to do this.

Oh, and to fix yer EQ if you patched...just do a system restore...that's what I did

Stupid son of a monkey rapist bastard! I patched so I'd be able to play on 5.7 DR-3 and then I come to EQEmu to get the eqhost.txt file and see this post, guess I'll have to turn over creation of my server :x this isn't cool! STUPID SOE!!!

heheh.. Lesson to anyone creating their own server, make backups of your files or have an eqinstall that works with your server that ya don't patch (and if you ever patch it, see the first point, make a backup... heh)

Sorry Sladdya... Hopefully the eqemu devs will figure out a way to authenticate with the new way the client is connecting soon.

Wish I could Sladdaya, but unemployment has me begging friends for a replacement stick of ram for the 256mb one that went bad on me.. lol.. Trying to play eq with 256mb kinda bites..

As for backups, at the very least backup the eqgame.exe and eqmain.dll files.. Those seem to be the ones that screw up connectivity.. Not sure if there are others too, I think I read it in one of the posts somewhere all the files you should back up but can't recall where.. Kinda brushed past it since I run my eqemu client in a different place and backup the dir before patching anyways... :D

The only files you ever have to back up for each patch are the exes and dlls, it will work fine with the correct version of those even if you have other newer files.

Your jsut stuck unless you have a friend that patched in that time willing to send you the files.

05-22-2004, 04:25 AM
Being stuck, unable to play the Emu, is an excellent opportunity for one to go perusing the tutorials and help forums in order to familiarize one's self with the various problems that might occur once the emu works with the live client, again, instead of posting even more threads for help ^.^

I have 3 questions!

1.) Why can't I log on?
2.) How do I un-patch so I can have l33t eqemu?
3.) When will this be fixed?

If I dont get the 3 questions answered immediately within the next hour, im committing sephocu, the honorable suicide that the samurias practice.

I got a 1017 error since my last patch was back in January.

Sence EQEmu's login is &%#&ed up with the new patch. I was wondering if I could get a copy of the minilogin source code if a new login server code has to be made?

I still play on my old 4.4 server and 4.4DB

Any way just asking, so dont rip me a new one...

Gotta say Memenerr 4.4 was the best :) I think that the minilogin source isnt released due to risk of security not just to eqemu but to eqlive aswell.

Jezebell
05-24-2004, 08:33 AM
Edit that link out of your post.

1) No Warez (No Discussion or Providing of Warez). Warez is any file that has been obtained without purchase from the company or a "legit" vendor, or without the sole permission of the owner, or company is considered illegal and is not permitted on these forums. This also includes all EQ files and also means do NOT ask, give out, host, or in some other way promote the giving out of these files. This includes but is not limited to: The EQ Patcher, eqgame.exe, eqmain.dll, spdat.eff, cshome.s3d, cshome_chr.s3d, or ANY file downloaded with the Verant EQ Patcher (aka Everquest.exe) with the exeption of files that can be re-created within 10 seconds by hand (this means eqhost.txt is okay).

*NOTE* Downloading the EQ Files off the Sony FTP Site is not a legal question to ask here. That is if you are buying their service, not to play here. Giving out this link will get your thread erased.

mikenune
05-24-2004, 09:48 AM
I think you've switched your definitions of "sad" and "legal" because "sad it what that is" makes no sense whereas "legal is what that is" makes perfect sense.

But, because I've already posted on the topic of warez at length, I'll limit myself to the following and then never post on this thread again. . .

What they don't seem to realize is that they ARE NOT PURCHASING THE RIGHTS TO THE PROGRAM. After you go out and buy a copy of Windows XP Home Edition, YOU DO NOT OWN THAT PROGRAM.

What you are doing is purchasing the right to USE THAT PROGRAM UNDER THE RESTRICTIONS AND GUIDELINES SET FORTH IN THE USER LICENSE.

whether or not he gets banned doesn't affect the rest of us in any negative manner, so might as well allow him to drown in ignorance for the remaining duration. Besides, anyone who would pruposefully choose to be incorrect is probably better left to himself anyways.
