When my parents used to tell me this it hurt so much more. i almsot wish they would be pissed instead.

As for your issue, sucks much, i am sorry to hear it, how old is your computer? or your HDD for that matter, i am suprised to hear that it failed you, however i do have some good news! I just save a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to geico.

I have used them before, (My issuse was my tower was inside a closet and the shelf collasped for some unknown reason, but my HDD wouldn't spin anymore =( ) anyway, they are extremely fast, and i got 95% of my files back, the only ones i didn't get were a few of my programs, i guess the needle made a nice deep scracth on that section when the computer fell, anyway if you need your stuff back, they are amazing, i won't lie they aren't really cheap, was 252.98 for me (this was a small HD only 10gb) i don't know what the price is on bigger ones, but anyway i liked em.

The hard drive was only a year and a half old its and IBM Deskstar 82.3Gb...

oh and the age of my computer.. Hmmm really it is nay( <---- Nay ???? lol sorry about this I am really trying to inprove my typing :) I ment to say about ) 5-2 years old I bult it from other computer so some of it is old and some of it is older.
The motherboard and CPU I bought at the same time and that was a two years ago.

It's time like these that I truly appeciate the setup I have here. All of my "important" files are stored on my PDC. They are backed up nightly to my BDC, ergo there are always 2 copies of my MP3s, important docs, email, etc... using Handy Backup.

My BDC even doubles as a WinAmp Nullsoft SHOUTcast server for my LAN, since all the MP3s are there, too. :)

Furthermore, to avoid complete file loss, I backup to DVD every 3 months or so.

I'm not bragging... The point is I KNOW where you are coming from. About 3 years ago my comp took a crap on me and I lost EVERYTHING and couldn't afford DriveSavers. I learned my lesson and NOW I OVER compensate! :)

You could always try R-Studio if it's just an issue that the drive won't boot - or put it in as a slave to see if you can recover anything.

I wish you luck and I feel your pain.

RecoverItAll salvaged most of my photography and mp3s about a year and half ago on a drive that had it's drive table get corrupted. I'd say I was able to recover about 65-70pct of the files. Think it costed somewhere between $200-300, but you have the program if it ever happens again.

I feel your pain though.. I paniced when it wouldn't boot.. I had just spent 2 months trying to get negatives scanned and hadn't archived them to CD yet.

Or to help in a situation like this you could be doing a nightly or if that is to often a weekly backup of your important files.

I myself backup my data every-other night to tape (comes from working as a network admin for so long).

Anyways I hope you are able to use one of the data recovory services to get your data, and programs back. Good luck!
