Me, After seeing verant cut the balls off my necro I lost interest in EQLive, I resorted to "cheating", speed hacks, spells hacks etc.. at last my necro could solo like in the old days. BAM then one day you are banned.

Now I could have started another account, but I really didnt want to start all over again, plus it was clear that the classes I liked were useless, verant deeming a holy trinity of clerics/warriors and shamen. I forgot about EQ for over a year.

Then I stumble on this site, and quite frankly was amazed at the claims made in the readme. I dug out my EQ cd's and reinstalled, patched up and installed EQEmu. I've been playing this last week and am still amazed. There is a long way to go, but a long way has already been completed. Congrats must go to everyone involved from the coders to the DB builders and 3rd party tool makers.

If I could ever get this to work on my own it would be great. I have went on other people's servers and had a blast with a level 61 warrior with the best of the best pretty much. Only problem is I am constantly dissconnected or crashed to the desktop. I imagine it has to do with the server I was useing. Unfortuneately you can't get full control if your useing someone elses server. I have tried and tried can just can't get this to work for me.

Personally, I'm interested in EQEMu for several reasons...

1. Every once in a while I like to OBLITERATE EVERYTHING IN SITE!!! Just for madicinal purposes you understand ;)

2. I want to be able to create my own world... new zones, new spawns, new quests, new items, etc... Right now this is very limited because I can't get my own servers to run properly, the EQEMu Admin tool has some serious limitations to it's overall functionality, my computer is an archaic and slow piece of crap, and I don't totally understand the in's and out's of database editing for use with EQEMu... But I'm a fast learner and very good at self-teaching, so I think I'll get the hang of it if I can ever get my computer to shape up :).

3. I HATE VI!!! Nerf, nerf, nerf, nerf, nerf!!! They should making soft foam balls and stuff!

and lastly...

4. I have a hard enough time affording food for myself, let alone an extra $10/month (now $13/month) just to play a computer game which largely just pisses me off and increases my blood preassure.

I'm sure there are other reasons, but those are good for now :)

Some people say computer games affect kids;
I mean, if Pac-Man affected us as kids,
we'd all be running around darkend hallways,
munching on magic pills and listening to repepitive
electronic music....

I'm a worldbuilder at heart, every game I have gotten I have made maps or mods for, I like editing stuff :D This I get to edit lots of stuff... and EQ was a good game until kunark came out, kunark just screwed it.

Baron,
Take a look at this then...

http://uaf.sourceforge.net/

Dungeoncraft, guy from scratch is reproducing Unlimited Adventures, the D&D computer game construction kit.. I had a blast redoing a couple of old TSR modules (I loved Village of Homlet for some reason!)

Also, as a world builder, you ought to be excited about NeverWinter Nights.. Its made so that new worlds can be created quickly and easily. I was reading in an interview where they mentioned the only tools they used that you dont get with the game are StudioMax and Visual Studio...

Pre-Kunark:

There are 128 players in Lower Guk.
There are 146 players in Nagafen's Lair.

Fantastic work!

If I ever hit the lotto, I'll send everyone workin on this some cash!

hehe

Seriously though, your project is GREATLY appreciated and NOT just for the playable aspects but the knowledge part also!

Reason for EQ Emu, Everquest is horible for those of us that don't have more than 2-3 hours to play, or don't have/know 30+ people to group with on a raid.

Lets me see things I NEVER got to see in 3 years of playing EQ!
I payed to play and see those things but the current code didn't allow for solo exploration with out massive deaths.

THANKS for working on this!
Mike

I agree Arcal,

My big problem in EQ live is that I am a solo player... I dont like grouping , Im not very social most of the time, I just want to do my own thing.. I'll get online with RL friends and have a great time and I dont mind getting in groups now and again, but as I general rule, I think it sucks to have to group for experience.. When you hit certain levels with some classes, you almost have no choice but to group if you want to get any exp. One of the reasons I love my druid, quad kited for exp all the way to 55, never had to waste my time in a group, dealing with crappy pullers, wimps that wuss out when they hit half health, or 12 year old's that require an intrepreter to decipher their incomplete sentences.. I understand grouping for deep down where the good stuff is, but when you cant solo a low blue without major downtime, then you have problems. And I really feel bad for soloers playing the gear driven classes, you would have to buy equipment which takes forever to hoard the cash up, unless you are able to hit some of the sweet spots...

Simply Everquest is a fun game in general... Some aspects like hours of leveling and camping items is not. Even with a 52 cleric on a Verant server, I still dont get to see the good stuff. And the stuff that people like Mal are doing is much better than ANY gm event I have ever been to.

To fully enjoy a Verant server you have to dedicate all of your free time, sleep, and life to get the full view of the game. Booo that.

I haven't played live eq since about a month before DAoC came out. After playing DAoC, EQ just kinda sucks to play. But now this hole hey guys that dragon is eating the Qeynos guards ability. Just makes this game alot more fun! After I'm done learning how to reproduce Live server zones good enough I'm going all out in that of makeing my own worlds and kinda GMing LAN party type events on my server...

This just really kinda adds an old scholl D&D GM effect to the entire game.

The options are limitless.. With someone really trained as a GM, you could concievable run a real D&D type adventure! Of course, the GM commands would probably need to be updated to give extra powers to the GM..

A '#spawnmobparty' would be great for spawning a party of creatures as opposed to a single one.. That way you could ambush a party with a group of 4 Hill Giants for that true, D&D random encounter feel..

I play with EQEmu for the simple fact of incentive for higher lvl game play, load up eqemu, get myself to 60 summon armor, epics, and think damn would be nice to have this on live servers hehe. :p

I really like the free-form, non-linear style of MMORPGs but don't like the fact that you HAVE to play them online. (the last really free-form single player RPG was Daggerfall). Plus I really like modifying and adding things to games. EQEmu with the admin program turns EQ into a very modifiable game, the only thing you can't change easily is the zone geometry and character models.
I've had ideas about creating a custom world for EQEmu, with different factions and NPCs, but don't want to spend hours writing down coordinates.. maybe I'll have to try out #dbspawn and see if it works.

Yea it was great to get to see Cazic Thule. IT is very hard to get to see stuff in the regular game. Like stated unless you live your life around this game and are in a good guild (and most good guilds don't just take anybody) you won't ever see alot of the coolest stuff. I think is is stupid to have stuff on a 1 week spawntime. I mean look at the paladin epic quest. Have to get a book from 2 dragons that are 1 week spawns and they don't even drop the book always! Then of course you have to win the book if it should drop. That is only 2 parts of it. I understand the ShadowKnights have to have something from Innoruuk? Well he is a 1 week spawn and good luck trying to find him before somebody else does

Also it sucks how slow exp goes up past 51. I had a 52 druid and if I quad kited 4 mobs I think I got half a blue of exp maybe? In a group I got about 1 blue per hour if it was a good group. This is at 52! Every Level past 52 gets harder and harder to gain exp. And there new Advancements past 51 is a joke. IT takes about the same time to get 1 ap point as it would take to get through level 51. And alot of the good stuff requires 6 and 12 ap points PLUS you have o have used ap points in skills prior to useing that.

I hope this project continues, I can't get my own server working thanks to this damned router for my internet, and I crash alot when I play on other people's servers.

Drawde says:

Well, MMORPG does stand for Massively Multiplayer ONLINE Role Playing Game, thus it is obvious that it would be an online game.... =) Just teasin'. And you said something about a game called Daggerfall? How old is that one? Never heard of it...

Anyways, back to topic, I play on the EMU servers to experience the Higher Level games, areas, and MOBs. Granted, unlike a lot of pplz here (it seems like, anyways), I still play on the live servers, its just that I don't have the time nor motivation to build up a level 60 warrior. I mean, trying to juggle high school with a 4.0 overall GPA and Everquest doesn't work out well (for some reason, I have trouble getting that through my friend's thick skull). However, there is one thing that Everquest saves me that many other High Schoolers have to deal with: a part-time job. Let's just say that Everquest+playerauctions.com+know-how on generating tons of plat=A half-way decent paycheck ;)

Well, I meant that I like free-form RPGs rather than linear and scripted ones, and all RPGs like that recently seem to have been MMORPGs :)
Daggerfall is a really old game now (1996 I think) it had a HUGE (thousands of towns and cities) freeform world with an enormous amount of replayability. However it eventually got boring and repetitive, as the randomly-generated world meant that most of the towns were identical and the dungeons were extremely tedious and easy to get lost in!
The sequel is Morrowind which has just been released (last week) and seems to be really good from everything I've heard about it, hopefully I will be buying it next week.
Morrowind's world is pre-created like EQ (though it has a world editor/creator shipped with the game) rather than random, but since there are so many character choices, quests and things to do it should be at least as replayable as Daggerfall.

I Haven't been able to play this emu yet (patched EQ before I even knew this existed :D ), but from the screenshots and what everyone else has said I can hardly wait for the newest version.

My problems with EQ Live are about the same as everyone else. Feeling underpowered, WAY too much down time, the inaccesability of about 40% of EQ to my characters, and basically the half thousand morons who feel that since they are paying to play they can do whatever they want to other people.

That being said, Great work to the Dev team and I can't wait for the new version!
